4. she's a great feminist writer
If you get a chance read "The Mixquiahuala Letters", it's a short novel of short stories. Very great stuff. All the stories are written in the form of letters from one woman to a life-long female friend. Now, I took the friend to be an on again off again lover, a true love, but there is debate over that. It's a great novel though. Easily readable in a day or so.

Here is her website:

5. I loved that too
She is lesbian in her real life too. I think bi actually. So it's interesting to read her works and see those conflicts, often in her writing she has a close female friend, but also has trysts with male lovers, who, frankly, are portrayed as lustful objects. Her female friend is the one that means the most. She objectifies men, in a way that is somewhat similar to how men in our society objectify women. Lots of fascinating role reversals like that. I love her work.
