Subject: Victory and Challenge
Yesterday, equality won in the Commonwealth, tomorrow equality is challenged again!
For the first time Massachusetts will have a pro-equality Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General with Deval Patrick, Tim Murray, and Martha Coakley respectively. Their win is your victory.
Every pro-equality incumbent legislator seeking reelection was returned to office yesterday. Since the Goodrige decision in 2003, no legislator supporting marriage equality has been defeated at the polls.
Our most vocal opponents in the legislature, Representatives Phil Travis, Emile Goguen, and Marie Perente were replaced by marriage equality supporters Steve D’Amico, Stephen DiNatale, and John Fernandes respectively. Additionally, Tom Conroy defeated Representative Susan Pope adding the 13th Middlesex to the pro-equality column.
Once again, Massachusetts voters demonstrated that they support candidates who support equal marriage. Your efforts ensured their victory and helped build support for marriage equality across the Commonwealth.
Although, last night was a time to celebrate, our work is not done. Tomorrow, the legislature meets again to debate the latest attempt to eliminate marriage equality. We need your help in securing equality once again. Call your legislators immediately and ask them to kill this constitutional amendment NOW!
Join us Thursday at the Statehouse to show your support for equality. We need your presence all day to support our allies in the Statehouse as we work to defeat this amendment.
With your help we can celebrate once again Thursday night,
Contact your legislators immediately,
Thanks,
Rob Henry & Chris Shorrock
