Rockstar's video game "Bully" allows same-sex kissing; handled normally
Video game maker Rockstar, fresh from the scandal of a previous game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" has released another seemingly controversal game called "Bully." Only rated "T for Teen" instead of the expected Mature, the game has recieved far less controversy than expected. But some of that controversy is actually good. Jimmy, the main character can start relationships with, and even kiss, other guys.

Coming from an article by GayGamer.net, a video shows a scene from the game. This game has recieved a lot of flak even before it was released, but it seems to be tamer than expected. Theres no killing, no guns, not even any blood. Jimmy starts the game as a victim, rather than the perpetrator of bullying and has to survive school by climbing up the social ladder. Dating is of course part of the high school experience and the game lets the player decide who to try a relationship with, if they want to try one at all.

The best part for the GLBT community is that gay dating is handled the exact same way as female dating. Rockstar could have taken the low road and filled it with homophobia and insults, but they didn't. This doesn't seem to be a glitch either, many gamers have reported they're able to do the same thing normally. As someone who enjoys video games (sometimes to much :p ) its refreshing to finally see something like this and have it be treated just like we want it: normally.

1. The Sims allows same-sex relationships, too.
My sim character got a live-in girlfriend and we eventually adopted a baby.

14. While opposite-sex Sims get a marriage with a ceremony with everyone in the neighborhood attending
Same-sex Sims are stuck with a "joined union" and no ceremony. :(

15. Fixed in The Sims 2
Same sex couples can have a union ceremony now. It is identical to the wedding, and quite touching to have all ones friends in their party finery gathered around as the sims being joined kiss under the flower entwined trellis.

6. We should complain to the fundies about it. They could use the publicity.

Nothing moves product faster than having fundies complain about it.

Meanwhile, when the fundies decide to complain...

4. Different
I wouldn't want to play it because it would be a reminder of my own school experience (not just high school, but everything from 1st grade up). I'd be too freaked out by memories to get any entertainment out of it.

But it's good they have a gay experience in it without any fanfare or BS. I'm just wondering if this game will be on Hillary's video game crusade hit list.

8. PS2 for now, PC possibly in the distant future
If the past GTA games are any indication, Rockstar may release the PC version in about 6 months. I've heard the xbox version has been cancelled though.

12. It called to mine too,
and I picked it up @ lunch. Was pleasantly surprised to find it's only $39.99 instead of $49.99.
