This is interesting--PEP used at Montreal Outgames
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/07/072706gameshiv.htm

The story is about a morning after HIV drug--I'd never heard of it before, and I thought something like that would be much more well-publicized. Does anyone have any type of news on this, or heard anything about it?

1. interesting, so the assumption is if you're gay you've got AIDS?
heart in right place, head in wrong place.

I think it's an overreaction. If they're having to "stock up" then they've made some really weird assumptions.

My guess? This is a push by someone who wants to test efficacy in the two people that do actually show up and ask for a PEP regimen.

3. It's a poor assumption and that's what I don't like about it
But at the same time I'm very intruiged about the science of the drug, and I would have thought that something like this would have gotten alot more publicity--it's defintly a step in the right direction to effectively treat HIV/AIDS.

4. AIDS drugs are toxic
Since 1981 hundreds of thousands have died from AIDS. But did all these men and women really die of immune suppression caused by a virus - or were the majority poisoned by the drug AZT? Zidovudine (AZT) was an experimental anti-cancer drug shelved in the sixties because it was found to be too toxic for human use at any dose. In the eighties, the chemical was dusted off and remarketed as an antiviral therapy for AIDS. Propaganda campaigns by the government, bought-off activists, and the drug's manufacturer Glaxo-Wellcome ensured that virtually everyone with an HIV-positive diagnosis, healthy or sick, took the poison. Many got sicker. Most died. None of us will ever forget. Later studies proved that taking AZT hastened death and destroyed quality of life for those on it. Today, AIDS drug dealers ignore the past and push more pills.

2. I guess I'm out of the loop too.
And I'm glad it's there for people. I am so sick of this attitude, from the article: "The use of PEP has been considered controversial by many AIDS care workers around the world - fearing gay men may rely on the drug rather than practice safe sex."

This is the same with the morning after pill.

I am so sick of other people worrying about a consenting adult's sex life. For me it's like saying the FDA is afraid to legalize gastric bypass surgery because up to the point of surgery people just might eat whatever they want. Or they shouldn't legalize Viagra, etc, because instead of taking care of their cardiovascular health men will just rely on these pills. They aren't so damn concerned about stuff like that. They just don't want people to have freedom to fuck, and I don't understand it at all; at least they don't want gays and women to have freedom to fuck. With straight men, it's okay, they are practically giving them the pills. This just drives me nuts.
