She came out and now her Baptist family doesn't
speak to her...from the St Louis Post Dispatch. This young woman still needs much support. I hope she finds it.

Coming to PrideFest at Tower Grove Park was like stepping into a world that seemed much farther than the 45-minute drive from Pacific. It was Christina Eastham's second time attending the two-day festival and parade. She said she was still shocked to see so many people and businesses supporting gay people.

Eastham, 23, came with her ex-girlfriend, a supportive sister and a co-worker from Steak 'n Shake, where she is a cook and server.

Six months ago, her eldest sister rode with her to the hospital after their father had heart bypass surgery. She told Eastham to renounce her church membership and confess to the preacher.

Eastham recently broke up with her girlfriend of 18 months because the girlfriend wanted to eventually get married.

"I just don't feel it's right for me to get married," Eastham said. "It's a sacred thing between a man and a woman. It even says it in the Bible."

2. There is a group called Growing American Youth
Hopefully she came across their booth and talked to one of the young folks there. Considering her upbringing as a fundie and the fact she lives in Pacific MO she is *probably* a Republican if she identifies with any political party. The article gave me the impression she is still very much tied to her fundie Christian beliefs.

I must give her a hand in allowing her name and place of employment to be referenced in the article. That takes a bravery that many, with far better support systems, do not have. I hope she is able to find a group she can join, but with the emphasis so much on marriage and her opposition to it to the point of severing a relationship, she may be spooked by the organized gay community.

3. Well, that's what I'm thinking...
Gender specifics aside, she's got great big balls of steel to let that sort of info out. I just hope that a local will track her down and tell her she's not alone...

4. there's the difference for me
if Jesus were alive and well and dispensing a dozen miracles an hour to "the worthy", flinging people off to their great reward in heaven, etc & yadda, and he told me that I needed to hate my kid in order to be a worthy christian I can't think of anything more contrary and untrue and unforgiveable to do to a kiddo who depends on you for a roadmap through life.

And worse, these people are doing it just on "faith".

I can't imagine being more loyal to your faith than to your kids. Literally, can't imagine that kind of pathology.

6. Out of one side of their mouths fundies say that
what they call the "Old" Testament is no longer valid and was fulfilled by Jesus and the "New" Testament. So, why do they go about quoting Levitical law? If they knew ANYTHING about Jewish law (which they do not) they would konw that Leviticus, according to the rabbis, applies only to Jews.

OY VEY!!!

Non-Jews are only expected to obey what are called the Noahide Laws...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noahide_Laws

The seven laws (commonly rendered as Sheva Mitzvot Shel Bene Noach) are:

1. Avodah zarah - Do not worship false gods.
2. Shefichat damim - Do not murder.
3. Gezel - Do not steal (or kidnap).
4. Gilui arayot - Do not be sexually immoral (forbidden sexual acts are traditionally interpreted to include incest, bestiality, male homosexual sex acts (i.e. sodomy) and adultery.)
5. Birkat Hashem - Do not "bless God" euphemistically referring to blasphemy.
6. Ever min ha-chai - Do not eat any flesh that was torn from the body of a living animal (given to Noah and traditionally interpreted as a prohibition of cruelty towards animals)
7. Dinim - Set up a system of honest, effective courts, police and laws.

The Talmud also states: "Righteous people of all nations have a share in the world to come" (Sanhedrin 105a). Any non-Jew who lives according to these laws is regarded as one of "the righteous among the gentiles". Maimonides states that this refers to those who have acquired knowledge of God and act in accordance with the Noahide laws.
