Terrific PRO GAY column from baseball writer. We should thank him.
I know I did, because here is a writer who himself, as a sports journalist, is in presumably a macho business.

Yet, he had the courage to actually go to a gay bar, interview people there, and get a first hand view of how gay baseball fans are no different than straight baseball fans.

Thanks Jeff Passan :toast:
========================================================================

CHICAGO – The White Sox manager's outburst elicits a complex reaction at a North Side gay sports bar.

Ozzie Guillen is the face of the White Sox. And he's not a fag. Just a coward.

13. GREAT ASTROS MANAGER COMMENT I FOUND
Manager Phil Garner called Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen on Tuesday about an article in a Chicago newspaper in which Guillen was quoted as saying Garner refused to shake hands during the World Series. Guillen told Garner he was misquoted and Garner produced a photo of him shaking hands with Guillen before one of the games in Chicago. ``Doesn't that look like shaking his hand right there? It sure looks to me like I'm shaking his hand,'' Garner said. ``I don't know what the issue is.'' The article also quotes Guillen as saying Garner treated him like ``some crazy Venezuelan man.'' Guillen said that quote was also incorrect and Garner, who briefly played in Venezuela, bristled at the mistake. ``I have quite a good rapport with Venezuelans,'' Garner said. ``I played in the (Latin) World Series and represented Venezuela. I have no problems with Venezuela.''

doesn't guillen sound INSANEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

10. I thanked him
I used to live there and am familiar with the bar he went to. Boystown is right by Wrigley and there have been occassional instances of trouble between fans of the Cubs and neighborhood gays. Fortunately it isn't as bad as it could be though.

2. My note to the writer :)
Jeff,

I can't express how happy and grateful I was after reading your column on Guillen.

I have season tix with the Giants. I love sports. Just got finished watching great NHL and NBA playoffs. I'm no different from any of my other buddies with the exception that I'm gay.

It is so hurtful to hear the terrible things that come out of the mouths of some sports figures.

As you know, gay sports fans are no different from straight sports fans. We cheer or teams on just as much as anybody else.

It says a lot that gay fans in Chicago can overlook the ugly comment by Guillen and move on.

On behalf of myself and the many thousands of gay and lesbian sports fans in this country, thank you for sharing their story in your brave column.

"striking looking writer"... I'm sorry --- he's a cute writer, okay! I made sure to say it was so nice to see the support of so many writers about this idiotic statement.
