New Jersey Expected To Be Next State To Rule On Gay Marriage
(New York City) As same-sex couples prepare to argue for marriage equality before the highest court in New York at the end of this month, and more than a year after a similar case was argued in the state of Washington, the next state to make a final decision on whether gays and lesbians can marry is expected to be New Jersey.

Arguments in New Jersey were heard in February. (story)

The justices peppered attorneys on both sides of the argument about the legal implications of opening up gay marriage, and whether the court or the legislature was the best venue to decide the issue.

The lawsuit began in 2002 when seven same-sex couples represented by Lambda filed a lawsuit seeking the right to marry. (story)

After spending 16 years in Jersey, I know they're smarter than that. Their might be a base of religiously insane in the pine barrens, but that's a SMALL minority.

3. Didn't New Jersey decide on equal marriage years ago?
I seem to remember that NJ was one of the first states to hear the matter, that a lower court ruled in favor of equal marriage but that the state constitution was amended before the Supreme Court could hear the case, effectively cancelling the lawsuit (the same thing happened in Hawaii.) Is my memory going, or is this suit something different?
