Pope Benedict rails against proposed rights for gay couples
http://www.advocate.com/news_detail_ektid30820.asp

Pope Benedict, speaking out on a topic that Italy's incoming center-left government will likely have to confront, on Thursday condemned same-sex marriage and legal recognition of unwed couples. The 79-year-old German pope immediately came under fire from some leftists who accused him of trying to write the country's political agenda, the Reuters news agency reports.

The pope, speaking to a conference on marriage and the family, reaffirmed the Roman Catholic Church's position that marriage must be a union of a man and a woman and open to procreation. "Only the rock of total and irrevocable love between a man and a woman is capable of being the foundation of building a society that becomes a home for all mankind," he said. Benedict told the group that marriage is for a man and a woman "who are open to the transmission of life and thus cooperate with God in the generation of new human beings."

1. Oh jeez, here he goes again. Why doesn't he just relax and
let God sort it out? That's what Christ said, "Judge no lest..."

5. A legitimate question: What does this shaman's interpretation of
a primitive superstition have to do with anyone's rights as a citizen? I hope our Italian brothers and sisters will ignore him as he so richly deserves.

11. Good! The more the Pope rails against gay marriage, and promotes
Catholic doctrine on the matter, the more obvious it becomes that anti-gay marriage laws violate the ABSOLUTE separation of church and state established by the First Amendment, here.

Do we want foreign prelates dictating our laws? Do we want our country ripped to shreds by the religious wars that our forebears fled from--that were CAUSED BY the wedding of church and state? Do we want factions of Protestants drawing and quartering other Protestants for their dissenting religious beliefs? Do we want Inquisitions and witch-burnings, and stupidity and ignorance and religious slaughter to visit our shores?

Separation of church and state. THAT's what this country is ALL about. And if we lose that, we lose all.

And let me add this: One of the two Bushite corporations that now 'count' all our votes with 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code, and virtually no audit/recount controls, is ES&S, a spinoff of Diebold, initially funded by rightwing billionaire Howard Ahmanson, who also gave one million dollars to the extremist 'christian' Chalcedon Foundation, which touts the death penalty for homosexuals, among other things.

That's who is counting our votes behind a veil of secrecy: far rightwing Bushites.

Diebold and ES&S = the end of our Constitution and the end of our democracy.

Congressional bills:

Russ Holt's HR 550 requires a real paper ballot, bans secret software in "voting machines", and has more than 170 co-sponsors, but the audit required is too weak, it promotes electronic voting and centralized power, and the secret software might be permitted to continue in the central tabulators (the bill is not clear).
