Virginia House Accepts Anti-Gay Marriage Definition

A legislative committee Wednesday approved an explanation of a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage that will be given to Virginia voters prior to November's election.

The House Privileges and Elections Committee did not look at the actual ballot language. That's already been approved.
Instead, the panel examined the wording of literature that the State Board of Elections will provide to voters in the weeks leading up to the election.

State law requires a neutral explanation of any proposed amendment be distributed to voters at least 90 days before it goes to the ballot.
