The Trend Is Moving Our Way On Marriage
There's a new poll out today which shows that in New York state, legalized same sex marriage is favored by 53 to 38.

53 to 38. Check that out. It's pretty damn amazing, considering this issue has only been on the horizon for the last ten years. It does indeed show that over time, when people get used to the idea, Americans will support equality and justice.

Our intrepid leader, Mr. Bush, bases his support on a constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriages on the notion that "activist" judges are "subverting" the will of the people on this issue.

This argument, while un-American, could go factually unopposed while the majorities in most states opposed gay marriage.

But, now that whole regions are starting to flip on the issue, there are probably eight or ten states where a majority now supports full equal marriage rights for gays and lesbians.

I would like a reporter to ask Mr. Bush this question at the next news conference:

"Mr. President, since recent polling shows a shift in a number of states where healthy majorities now support same sex marriage, wouldn't your proposed constitutional amendment actually subvert the will of the people in those states?"

Let the fucker try to answer that one.

1. As a straight male who's been married 17 years and has 2 young kids,
let me state for the record that I am in full support of gay marriage. Not civil unions. Not some
second-class citizen netherworld BS definition. Marriage.

Gay PEOPLE deserve the same rights as straight people, period. Until this becomes a reality
in this country, the hollowness of our nation's sloganeering will continue to be dashed upon the
shoals of our hatred, ignorance and arrogance.

2. Hey ruggerson!
That is great news, really really great news. It makes me very happy. It is going to take us a while longer but we are making some headway here in my state. Check us out! 6 chapters since October with 3 more just beginning to form! We will get it done here too. There is no reason for anyone to ever vote against this. http://www.kansasequalitycoalition.org/

3. i suppose you are one of those uppity fags who want to be treated fair?
I suppose you want to be treated like everybody else. :sarcasm:

Funny story ... a gay friend listened to my story 4 years ago as my marriage was dying ....
I shall never forget his kindness.

Gays have replaced "ni**ers, commies, and atheist professors" as the group that right uses
to induce fear to keep power.

6. Atheists still get a lot of air time
As an atheist myself, you can take my word for it. I don't recall hearing the President say on national TV -- several times -- that he doubts homosexuals can be Americans and patriots. He has said exactly that about atheists.

7. the problem is
if 90 percent of those 38 votes show up on special election day while only 10 percent of the 58 show up, it's still a loss.

And they show up by the church busload. How do we get our guys out there in pro-rata numbers?
