The Spanish language channel Telemudo is exploring Gay issues right Now!
I had Telemundo on (I just had it on for the Protest coverage, waiting for "The Daily Show" to come on), and I looked over and noticed one of the Tele-novellas had two men getting rather friendly. Then they had another scene, and then went back to the same two men, but then the Wife of the straight looking guy walked in and caught them in the Bedroom.

I don't speak Spanish, so I can't say what they were saying, but I thought this was rather progressive of them, and I though I should let you all know. (And if anyone here understands Spanish, they could let us know what they are saying too).

NOTE: This was about 9:35pm EDT on Monday night.

1. I love both Univision and Telemundo
and my Spanish gets better every time I tune in. Their programming is vastly superior to the dreck on US networks. They show movies (and Hollywood B-movies dubbed in Spanish are hilarious), have glitzy variety shows, telenovelas, soccer (more interesting than US jock sports), and some incredibly wild chat shows.

I rely on them heavily the 4 months a year PBS runs garbage and begs for money.

2. I know exactly what you mean, I often wish I understood more than...
...a few words of Spanish, because I can tell that their News coverage is WAY more complete, as compared to the English Language Cable "news."

Now this is weird, this program said that it had the English translation Closed Captioned, but it's on CC3, and I only get CC1 and CC2 on my T.V., that's a drag. :-(

3. I took six years of French
and only started getting Spanish through osmosis when I lived in a largely Puerto Rican part of Boston. Now I live in NM and hear a lot more of it, so my proficiency in understanding it is increasing. I still have trouble spitting it out, though.

I know people who spent extensive time in other countries who have told me that the greatest aid to learning the language was local TV programming, especially dubbed films where they knew the dialogue.

I just wish I'd been smarter and split my time between French and Spanish.

4. Turn on the closed caption
It might be easier to follow the text of the words. If you record a show, you can pause the closed caption to look up a word.

5. BTW: the show was Dicisiones/Extraordinarios
At least that's how the Comcast program guide lists it, I think the actual title has one more word in the title.
