Banning Gay Marriage 'Act Of Love' Group Says
(Denver, Colorado) Saying they were motivated by love, a coalition of religious and family groups formally kicked off a drive Wednesday for an amendment to the state constitution that would ban gay marriage.

Coloradans for Marriage submitted the proposed wording of the amendment to the Legislative Council office at the state Capitol, the first step toward getting it on the ballot this fall.

The group's president, Bishop Phillip H. Porter Jr., said the group was acting with "the love of a mother, the gentle guidance of a caring father" to preserve marriage and protect children.

He said the proposed amendment was not about hatred toward gay people.

"We can have it (love). We are all called to have that love even when it hurts us, even when it hurts others," said Porter, of All Nations Church of God in Christ in Aurora, a Pentecostal church.

1. "... to preserve marriage ..."
By NOT allowing more people to marry?

"... and protect children ..."

What are they being protected FROM, exactly?

I'm still unclear on the homophobic agenda's talking points. :dunce:

6. I just amused myself talking to the idiot's daughter-in-law, who told me
that I didn't understand scripture, and I was going to hell for having the nerve to voice my opposition to this grandstanding bit of homophobia dressed as "love".

5. Here's some love for Coloradans for Marriage
GO TO HELL!

Here's an idea:

If you really want to protect marriage, how about doing something that actually involves the people who get married?

ONE MAN - ONE WOMAN - ONE TIME - NO DIVORCE - FOREVER!!!!!

That, and that alone, will preserve and protect marriage.

HYPOCRITES!

Denver, Colorado) Saying they were motivated by love, a coalition of religious and family groups formally kicked off a drive Wednesday for an amendment to the state constitution that would ban inter-racial marriage.

Coloradans for Marriage submitted the proposed wording of the amendment to the Legislative Council office at the state Capitol, the first step toward getting it on the ballot this fall.

The group's president, Bishop Phillip H. Porter Jr., said the group was acting with "the love of a person of only one race marrying inside their race" to preserve marriage and protect children.

He said the proposed amendment was not about hatred toward inter-racial people.

"We can have it (love). We are all called to have that love even when it hurts us, even when it hurts others," said Porter, of All Nations Church of God in Christ in Aurora, a Pentecostal church.

"We live in a nation that wants no pain but all of the gain. We can't have it both ways," he said.

The proposed amendment reads, "Only a union of people of one race shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this state."

Coloradans for Marriage includes churches, the Rocky Mountain Family Council and national groups such as Focus on the Family, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the National Association of Evangelicals, headed by Ted Haggard, pastor of Colorado Springs' New Life Church.

The group will need approval of the wording from the secretary of state and 68,000 valid signatures of registered voters to get the measure on the ballot.

Another group, Coloradans for Fairness and Equality, has already mobilized to oppose amendment, sending volunteers door-to-door in the Denver area.

Sean Duffy, a consultant for the group, said the proposed amendment does nothing to strengthen or protect families and would "enshrine discrimination into the language of the constitution."

"When it's thoroughly examined I think we'll see that hurting someone else's rights doesn't strengthen your marriage," he said.

There that's better.

Because those religious taliban groups don't see the hypocrisy between denying marriage to same gender couples and inter-racial couples, because i'm multiracial and received lots of hate for my american father being married to a asian mother, and yes i'm queer.

9. I believe we agree that right-wing religious outfits discriminate
even as they mouth the words that they are accepting and loving.

I believe we agree that they are hypocritical and hateful and xenophobic, whether the subject is interracial marriage or gay rights or what have you.

15. Who the hell is this Reverend bullshitting?
There isn't a drop of love in his veins and he knows it. It's all about punishment - you know, the gentle twist of the knife in the back of gays who want to let their partners make health decisions, the tender touch of a loving, guiding hand as distant relatives get legal right to steal property, bar partners from funerals and exhume bodies from graves just because they are filled with that "spiritual" love.

One of the things that pisses me off the most is that our stupid groups just repeat the same cliches in response - and dammit, we need to just shove it up these faux christians loving butts...and tell them that we are using our gentle guiding hand of love to get their church out of our fucking lives.

Kevin you just expressed the exact attitude I am feeling - word for word!
:yourock:

The time has come for real Christian groups and congregations to step up visible hospitality and advocacy for GLBT people. Some are doing a great job, but we need to do better!

16. New law prevents divorce
Nationwide ban against divorce was enacted February 14th, 2006, despite protests from millions of right-wing "Christians".

BuffyTheFundieSlayer, spokesperson for the ban, commented: "The law was implemented with the love of a mother, the gentle guidance of a caring father, to preserve marriage and protect children".

19. Except just try to get the Colorado media
to even think of publishing or broadcasting THAT point of view. Now their side can say or write as much hateful crap as they choose, but our side disappears unless it is done politely. . .and that just isn't gonna cut it against these monsters. To me, this is the biggest issue we need to face, because our "activist" groups aren't stepping up to the plate and just saying it the way it really is . . .
