Nice experience with Disney
My wife and I enjoy Disney World, and we try to go there for vacation every couple years. A couple weeks ago, we got an ad from our local AAA offering travel discounts if we could attend a local meeting. Sounded good, and AAA travel has been pretty good with us in the past, so we went.

So we showed up at the local office Monday night, and about 30-40 people were there for the presentation. The Disney rep was very nice, and had a short program about the whole deal.
About 20 minutes into it, she started talking about what times of the year were good to go, when was the most crowded, least crowded, etc.
Some ignorant lady near the front asked "Can you tell me when the Non-family times are so we can avoid them?"
The Disney rep looked confused. "Ummm. Well, the week between Christmas and New Years is always very crowded, and so is Spring Break."

Ignorant lady: "No! I mean, when are the non- family oriented events."

Disney rep: "Umm. I'm not sure what you mean. The only places at Disney that don't allow kids are a few of the night clubs at Downtown Disney, and the Adult-only areas on the cruise ship."

Ignorant lady: "NO NO NO! When is the gay week?"

Disney rep (amused): "Disney doesnt have a gay week."

Ignorant lady: "Yes they do! I heard about them at church! They said Orlando is invaded by gays and they all go to Disney at the same time and we should stay away during that week. I dont want my kids seeing men kissing!"

Diney rep (trying not to laugh): "Disney doesn't have special weeks for anyone, and they certainly don't bar people from entering the parks just because of their orientation."

Ignorant lady harrumphed and grabbed her kids and left. There was some mild laughing from everyone else after she left. I thought the Disney rep handled it pretty well.

2. Maybe Disney should have a section
dedicated to leviticus so "christians" can teach their children how to hate people in a fun atmosphere. Obviously "christians" don't want their children to observe public displays of affection. They'd rather smack their wives around in private and teach their daughters how to remain virgins. I went to Disney "Land" back in 73 on my first liberty out of bootcamp. My tastes now run to Avery Island in Louisiana where Tabasco Sauce is made. Its like Disney World for old guys.

3. Disney did have a Gay Day. Everyone else is still allowed in.
No different from other times. I went once. Took me awhile to figure out why all the same-sex hand holding. Not sure if they still have that.

5. It's not Disney having a "Gay Day"
There are just days when the gay community comes out in force. It seems to be sometime in June/July. Gay pride week in most cities is usually the last week of June, so that might coincide in Orlando or something.

8. First weekend in June
Lasts about a week.

150,000 screaming queens and kings.... did it twice... One of those things you have to do once in your life, I guess

My partner and I and our friends are over it now, though-- as we live in South Florida and have the opportunity to go during a "nicer" (weather-wise) time of the year..say February/March.

Having red as the color of the GayDays week was a stroke of insanity in my humble opinion....

Still-- it's loads of fun :)

14. The Disneyland resort in CA also has 'gay days'
or at least that is how they've become known. It's pretty popular. The OC area gets their collective britches in a bunch over it still and it's been going on for several years now.

So come on out to CA, too! :hi:

Disney's GAY days are EVERY day - they even call themselves "the gayest place on earth", or is it "happiest place on earth"

4. I'm reminded of the Lenny Bruce bit where he talked about the judge. . .
who imposed a stiff sentence on two men ticketed for kissing in Miami (this is the late '50s), and gave as his rationale the need to "set a precedent at the start of the season."

"There's a season for this sort of thing?" Bruce asked incredulously.

What I wonder with this woman is, what does she do if her kids see men kissing "in the off-season"?

12. Two guys should have started kissing right there, even if they weren't gay
That would have been fun!
