Anyone want to play a new "getting to know you" game?
The name of the game is "LIKE ME".

The object of "LIKE ME" is to post one true statement about yourself in a subject line. If other GLBT posters have that in common with you, they should hit the reply button and chime in with a "hello" or "me, too!". Feel free to say as much or as little as you like about the newly discovered commonality you share! You are encouraged to post as many "LIKE ME"'s as you want!

For example, let's say I post "LIKE ME, you're a volunteer." If you volunteer, you can reply to my post and say a little about your experience, how long you've been a volunteer, etc. Get it?

"LIKE ME" is about discovering similarities/commonalities and it's a fun way to renew friendships here or build new ones! AND -- "LIKE ME" can be as silly or as serious as you choose to make it! :D

Here are a few possible "LIKE ME" ideas that may help launch this thread:

LIKE ME, you have children.

LIKE ME, your perfect first date includes...

LIKE ME, you have G, L, B, or T siblings.

Looking forward to hearing more about you and sharing a story or two!

p.s. This is my 4,000th post. :hi:

Six weeks away from our 17th anniversary, still nuts about each other, and hoping for another 17. Life is like a very comfortable down pillow.

After kissing a lot of frogs, so to speak, I've finally met my Prince.

Congratulations on 17 years of happiness together. May you have many, many more happy years together. :-)

7. LIKE ME, you're spent fighting for equality
Symptoms:
- Low energy
- Strapped financially
- are like "where are all the other glbt people?"
- know it's a long shot to defeat a state constitutional amendment in the deep South, but a fight for one's civil rights is a fight not to walk away from.
- Only donate to politicians who have my back.
- Can't watch "W" on TV at all.
- are p!ssed off at the government.
- are tired of working to educate others on why I should have the same freedoms and civil rights as they do.
- long for a vacation to Disney World or Amsterdam or Rome.... or Vancouver.
- looking for other states and countries to live in if things get worse.
- spending a lot more $ on my therapist.

15. I'm feeling less spent now.
Like you, I only donate to politicians who have my back. I never watch * on television -- ever. I'm pissed at the Republicans and the Democrats but I'm even more pissed at the failures of the media. Just to name a few... :)

8. Like me, I enjoy reading about the history of GLBT folks.
Pioneers like Franklin Kameny, Barbara Gittings, Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon. Organizations like the Daughters of Bilitis and the Mattachine Society.

I like reading about our common history as a community. I like knowing that when I go to a gay pride parade...that that's one reason why I'm happy and proud being gay.

16. Me too!
I've been reading up on fascism over the last year (imagine that!) and thought of a film you might want to put in your Netflix cue (I imagine you've probably seen it). It's called, "Paragraph 175" http://www.tellingpictures.com/films/5.html . If you love the history of GLBT people, this documentary will really touch you.

Also, let's trade a few book recommendations. I keep copies of a few books around for reference, you might like these:

"Greek Homosexuality" -K.J. Dover
"The Love of the Samurai" -Tsuneo Watanabe & Jun'ichi Iwata
"Homosexuality in History" -Colin Spencer

Always good to bump into you here!

17. Me too but...
my queerness informs everything in my life. I'm interested in the role of 'class' as it affects identity construction, especially among GLBT people.

What other signifier(s) would you include as part of your identity? :hi:

21. Like Me you wonder is there ....
a class action lawsuit we can put together against Dobson, Falwell, Terry et. al.
What they're putting out there is defamation of character ~ Where is their empirical evidence?

And empirical evidence does not include anything by Paul Cameron, who has been discredited by all reputable associations, yet is the #1 resource for anti-gay slur artists.

23. ME TOO!
We are perfectly capable of defining ourselves.
Using God as a weapon is never right,
and I have grown weary of "christians" stealing the good Name and message of Jesus
and using it to hide their own fear and bigotry.

You GO, buffy! :loveya:

AND - like so many others of you, I'm lucky to have been coupled very happily for 21 years.
(not to put down being single, by any stretch!)
