http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/01/010906alito.htmSenate confirmation hearings begin today for Samuel Alito, President Bush's nominee for a lifetime position on the Supreme Court, with LGBT civil rights and other groups calling for his rejection and conservatives demanding quick approval.
Every major gay rights organization has called for the Senate to turn down Alito. Representatives from several will be at the Justice Committee to observe the hearings. Other liberal organizations are planning protests near the Capitol.
The right is just as energized. Sunday night dozens of evangelical churches were linked by satellite for "Justice Sunday III" The program originated at the Greater Exodus Baptist Church in Philadelphia and featured a long list of opponents of gay rights including Sen. Rick Santorum (R.-Pa), Rev. Jerry Falwell and James Dobson of Focus on the Family.
Viewers of the show were told that Alito would uphold "traditional marriage" and support "the right to life".
