This “Brokeback Mountain Syndrome” occurs when someone is compelled by their own fears (such as “Brokeback’s” Ennis Del Mar) or by the pressures of society (“Brokeback’s” Jack Twist) to sublimate their same-gender feelings, often re-directing them unsuccessfully to members of the opposite sex.

The result is personal unhappiness and depression that undermines their attempts to form long-term loving relationships. This adversely affects not only them, but the people closest to them, such as spouses and children.

in life. And they never question the heterosexual conveyor belt dumping them into high school dates, the prom, college dating, marriage, and a couple of kids.

Sometime later in life, after the kids are grown, and they start to ponder their feelings then they get a lightbulb moment.

I've dubbed all their years up to that point "The Heterosexual Conveyor Belt" not making fun of them or it, but that's just the way society works I think.

4. Don't know, and haven't seen the movie

but one thing I found annoying about the promotion was the first treatment I had seen (can't remember where - kind of an Entertainment Tonight thing, I think, or maybe a lifestyle segment on CNN), reviewed the movie, and then ran a short segment on how one of the main actors - I think Glynhaal (sp?) found true love on the set with another actress, and I think he might have proposed.

It might be a nice human interest story, but it struck me as a way to defuse - if not apologize for - the subject matter of the film. "See, they're not really gay - one of them fell in love with an actress!". There was absolutely no reason to attach that segment to the review - it's like they were embarassed by their own movie that they were promoting.
