Wal-Mart Preparing to Offer Another Carrot to GLBT Community
(From the "christian" news service Agape ... so take with a grain of salt - or perhaps the whole friggin' salt mine)

The American Family Association (AFA) is expressing disappointment and concern over a pro-homosexual seminar being held on Friday at Wal-Mart's headquarters in Arkansas.

AFA spokesman Randy Sharp says his organization has obtained a copy of a Wal-Mart staff memo inviting home office associates to a seminar on December 16 entitled "Why Market to Gay America?" The memo, dated December 8, notes that America's homosexual community has $610 billion in purchasing power, and that the seminar -- sponsored by Wal-Mart's Office of Diversity -- will "provide insight into the purchasing decisions of GLBT customers."

Sharp says Wal-Mart has long been seen as a shopping place that supports family values. But now, he says, that image is in question.

"Basically what they're doing is they're giving their stamp of approval on homosexuality, recognizing it as a facet in America that deserves their support and their encouragement," he says. "And they want their business."

So AFA lost out with Ford and now they are turning their attention to Wal-Mart. Hmmmm ... when will they realize that money (especially all of our allegedly "disposable income") talks and the kind of bullshit they push walks?

1. Randy Sharp is a shit-for-brains
Those AFA people need to get a hobby. Like basket-weaving in the mental ward. Jesus.

2. Good move by Wal-Mart
and this should be good news for AFA. They now have some other reason to hate humans. If they only knew the value of the constitution which they benefit from every day. Please AFA boycott Wal-Mart and free up the check out lines.

3. Gay groups need to refuse to accept advertising from Wal-Mart
Just like Air America Radio does.

Wal-Mart knows that they are "un-Christian" and "un-Biblical" as is being exposed by campaigns like Wake-up Wal-Mart.

Now they need to diversify away from the Talibornagain marketplace.

I say we let them paint themselves into a corner.

No gays and no Godwhacks.

5. This is an "image" move by Wal-Mart.
They know they're in the shithouse when it comes to progressives, so they see what happened to Ford and figure they can drive in some business by playing nice with gays. Well, good for them, but they still don't take care of their employees and buy crap from sweatshops and all that OTHER nasty stuff.

6. Our disposable income certainly adds up to alot more than the
bigots AFA attracts. Their ignorance keeps them in the low wage jobs, subtract a mandatory 10% for church, another % for giving to the AFA (some dumbasses sent in enough last year to give them $10,000,000 - who says promoting hate doesn't pay)

We, on the other hand, only have to shop for ourselves to look constantly fabulous, the sex is so rampant and hedonistic that I can get laid constantly without even springing for so much as a drink or the price of a condom, mandatory gay agenda dues to wipe all religion off the face of the earth and purchase toasters. :sarcasm:

Happy that WalMart is willing to recognize us as an equal pocketbook worth trying to snag, but their whole existence and culture is just too opposite mine to want to shop there. I haven't been inside one in three years, the fact that they want to put on a seminar to attract my dollars (fuck me, just as long as my Visa card goes through the register) just isn't going to get my business.

Interesting that the quotes are from April, but they release this 'news' today - right after Ford woke up from their caving in to hate groups and told them not only to fuck off, but actually stated that they would be spending more to make sure we knew their committment.

7. Ooooh! Nice catch on the dates!
That does look interesting that they are pulling up 8-month-old quotes for a story to run today ... and I do find the timing of the news story interesting (the day after Ford saw the light).

What's even more interesting is that the AFA has said nada ... zip ... nothing ... on the Ford announcement yesterday. The news reports I read int he mainstream media all said either AFA couldn't be reached for comment or had no comment. Call me paranoid, but I think it's ominous that there hasn't been a condemnation and general wailing and nashing of teeth from the wingnuts. I have a feeling they are preparing an all-out onslaught and are quiet for now because they are planning their next move. I also figure the phone lines between AFA and Ford are red hot today (and would love to be a fly on the wall listening to the conversation).
