Gay Activist To Head Maine Governor's Re-Election Bid

At 27 Jesse Connolly may be the youngest man to ever run a gubernatorial election campaign anywhere in the country. But already he has a track record that is the envy of bother Democrats and Republicans.

This week he was chosen by John Baldacci, Maine's Democratic governor, to head his sagging re-election campaign.

Connolly's most recent success came in November with the defeat of a ballot measure that would have overturned the state's LGBT civil rights law.

As president of Maine Won't Discriminate Connolly led the gay community to charge to maintain the law, winning by 55 percent. It was the third time the legislature had passed a non discrimination law. The previous two attempts were defeated by voters.
