*Straight but not narrow!*
Here are some other "fun facts" about me:

1. I'm from Chicago, host city for Gay Games 2006!

2. I love the Logo channel for the movies, including Torch Song Trilogy which I'm watching right now. Bless you, Harvey Fierstein!

3. Here's what I HATE:
a) People who think gay marriage is a fate worse than terrorism.
b) People who think banning gay marriage will make America a better place to live.

(Nothing could be further from the truth, right?)

4. I just found out last night that one of my best friends from childhood is gay. Who knew? Amazing!

5. I am a serious amateur adult competitive figure skater (gosh, what a mouthful!), and every year I perform in a special exhibition at one of my home rinks to raise money for HRC!

More later.

:hi:

2. Human Rights Campaign
It's a national LGBT lobbying group located in D.C.

6. HRC is one of several national LGBT organizations.
It's taken some criticism lately over its structure and goals. Personally, I think it's a little too focused on the marriage equality issue which is important, but there are issues like employment and universal health care that I think would affect a greater number of people. It's also been criticized for raising funds to build itself a new headquarters instead of spending the money for lobbying.

On the whole, it's a worthwhile organization even if it (like all organizations) has its faults.

4. Thanks, danagsk8! It's great to have straight allies ...
... especially when there are as aware and involved as you!

It can be frustrating even here on DU at times to deal with some of the subtle (and not-so-subtle) homophobia, but it really gives me a boost to meet straight folks who really "get" LGBT issues ... or even those who are open to learning about them.

Wow! And you're a figure skater, too! That's impressive! Equally as impressive is using your talents to help raise money for LGBT organizations.

We could stand a whole lot of allies like you! Thanks!!!
