Hate at the Macy’s parade?
As an estimated three million New Yorkers gaze upward Nov. 24 to view giant helium-filled balloons during the city’s famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, a conservative group plans to hand out a promotional item to help individuals struggling with personal “problems,” including homosexuality.

Volunteers with Colorado-based Focus on the Family will distribute “stress balls” along the parade route, according to Steve Watters, the group’s director of Marriage & Family Formation. Focus on the Family is not an official participant in the parade, according to Watters.

“We realize that we are not going to reach a lot of our target audience, but we hope by word-of-mouth to draw attention to the Web site,” Watters said Tuesday. “The holiday season is specifically targeted because of an increase in depression and suicide.”

Orlando Vera, a spokesperson for the parade, said Macy’s does not have any control of what is distributed along the parade route because it is public property and under the authority of the New York Police Department.

Guess it doesn't occur to Dobson and the rest of the Focus on the Family scum that repressive religion and its ongoing oppression of LGBT people is a MAJOR cause of depression and suicide.

2. Not that it means it didn't happen, but I was at the parade
and we are staying in Times Square. I haven't seen any sign of the Focus on the Family assholes....and I had on one of my DU shirts at the parade, so if I had, I would have been spoiling for a fight.

Hopefully, they changed their minds.

3. Why can't they just let people live their lives
People that can't see different views on an issue drive me nutz!

If you enjoy being with members of the opposite sex, good for you.
But if someone enjoys being with a member of the same sex, well good for them!

I had an interesting while respectful discussion with a highly
religious person last week. I pointed out to her that it seemed
kind of funny that she thought it was completely appropriate to
belive that some higher power created this planet in 6 days then rested.

But if somebody believes in intelligent life from space, and that just
maybe these aliens have visited earth...well that's just crazy! I mean
which is more probable?

isn't it possible that our word is some science experiment on a kid's
desk on some planet somewhere, kind of like a big ant farm?

5. If you'd seen how badly I fucked-up some of my experiements in school...
then yes, it is very likely that we are the result of a C+ student's science project.

4. Dobson to face-down Spongebob, invites gays to squeeze his balls.
That would have been the headline I would have written for The New York Post.

6. These are some supremely twisted, evil fuckers
AND I HAVE TO SORT THEIR MAIL.

Me. A gay man. I have to HELP THEM HATE ME!

“We realize that we are not going to reach a lot of our target audience, but we hope by word-of-mouth to draw attention to the Web site,” Watters said Tuesday. “The holiday season is specifically targeted because of an increase in depression and suicide.”

Yeah, assholes- BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!

I really, REALLY wish I could refuse to sort FOTF mailings. I'd LIKE to trash them when I see them. Why shouldn't I feel that way? It would be like asking a black man to sort mail the KKK sends out, or telling someone who's Jewish that they have to help get out the Nazi word.

And the APWU *would not back me* were I to assert this.

Does anyone care what these things do to my mental state? Or does MY mental health get poo-pooed into irrelevance?

“The holiday season is specifically targeted because of an increase in depression and suicide.”
