Troy Mayor Slams Gay Marriage in Facebook Post
Edited on Fri Dec-02-11 06:32 PM by William769
Janice Daniels is not yet a month into her new position as mayor of Troy, and she is already causing controversy after a status update slamming gay marriage on what appears to be her personal Facebook page went viral Friday afternoon.

The June 25 status update reads: "I think I am going to throw away my I Love New York carrying bag now that queers can get married there." The post was tucked among other posts and photos about Daniels' mayoral campaign, as well as personal photos and status updates.

Daniels herself commented on this story, although she did not return phone calls to her office.

" I firmly support marriage as being defined as between one man and one woman and I am not going to change my position," Daniels commented in part. "That said, I love all people and will continue to work towards promoting a vibrant City of Troy.

I haven't been to Troy since the mid 80's, I thought it was turning into a mecca for Gay people? I may have the wrong suburb. Anyone from Michigan know?

EDIT: spelling.

1. You're thinking about Royal Oak and Ferndale.

Troy is a soulless collection of cookie-cutter subdivisions, generic suburban office towers and shopping malls.

2. Thanks!
There are a lot of suburbs and it's been awhile since I have been there. Ferndale is the one I was thinking.

6. I haven't been to Troy since that late 90s
when my daughter had a ice hockey tournament at RIT. Yeah, it reminded me of a very run down Greenwich Village. As far as everything else, as a mother I am going to be VERY, VERY MAD if my older daughter cannot marry the woman she loves in New York State. My YOUNGER daughter can, so can't my OLDER daughter. Don't give me that crap about gay people can marry people of the opposite sex. I have seen the repercussions of that in the family going back to the 1950s. I would not want that for my worst enemy, let alone my CHILD.

7. Troy, Michigan?

Looks nothing like Greenwich Village. It's the posterchild for generic suburbia:

Perhaps you mean Troy, NY?
