Boston Archdiocesan agency helps gays adopt children
http://www.advocate.com/news_detail_ektid21881.asp

The social services agency of the Archdiocese of Boston has allowed 13 foster children to be adopted by same-sex couples in the past two decades, despite Vatican teachings against homosexuality.

Leaders of Catholic Charities of Boston said state regulations prohibit the agency from discriminating based on sexual orientation. "If we could design the system ourselves, we would not participate in adoptions to gay couples, but we can't," the Rev. J. Bryan Hehir, the agency's president, told The Boston Globe. "We have to balance various goods."

The 13 adoptions—a small fraction of the 720 placed by Catholic Charities in that period—took place as part of a contract with the state Department of Social Services. The children placed with gay couples are among the most difficult to place, either because they are older or have physical or emotional problems.

1. just when you think there is a little ray of hope
"If we could design the system ourselves, we would not participate in adoptions to gay couples, but we can't," the Rev. J. Bryan

guess one of the last things to ever become enlightened in this world is religion.

2. Did they say that gay couples get children who are the hardest to place?
Wouldn't you think that they would want to give these 'problem children' the best 'family values' lifestyle they can?

5. Gay people can't have "unplanned" kids like heteros.
The gay couples I know who are raising children are some of the best parents I've ever seen. I think it's because a gay couple has to fight tooth and nail to adopt a child or have fertility treatments most of the time...they're damn sure they want that child. There's none of this "Oops, I'm pregnant, now we have a kid" that happens to heteros.
Maybe I'm biased, but it makes sense.
