NY Senator Greg Ball asks "Tweet me Yes or No on Marriage Equality"
I just signed up on Twitter, just for this. I wrote him of my two daughters, one straight and the other gay. I wrote him of my younger daughter's wedding in NY where she grew up. I also tweeted him how my older gay daughter cannot do this. I told him how so many of her gay friends are going to Connecticut to marry. I asked WHY? Why shouldn't my older daughter have the same civil rights as her younger sister? I also mentioned that the Catholic Church is not now forced to marry divorced couples. So why would they, or any other religious institution, be forced to marry gay couples. I also brought up the difference between civil and religious marriage, using MYSELF as an example. I am not religious and do not consider my marriage of 38 years as "sacred, holy, or a sacrament". While the religious have the right to think that, I, and others, also have the right to keep religion out of OUR marriages if that is our choice.

It is said that Senator Ball is a crucial vote for equality. He is considered a NO vote, but if he is bothering to put up on Twitter the above question, maybe he ISN'T so closed minded? If you live in New York and support equality, please tweet him ASAP. Maybe we can make a difference here.

ONE MORE VOTE and New York State will become the largest state in the country to have Marriage Equality!

7. I sincerely hope Ball votes Yes
He represents my region, and at least he's being open minded and asking for feedback which is surprising. He's a strong Tea Party member and has organized local Tea Party rallies several times in the past, so the fact that he's even open to hearing debate is surprising. Although my gut tells me that he'll end up voting "No".

8. Your gut feeling is almost certainly correct.
Ball is a solid Republican, and he's been one of the ones insisting that there's no room to discuss the marriage bill unless it has extra rights inserted for religious organizations to not recognize gay marriages. This Twitter thing is grandstanding, a way for him to look like he's not just voting the party line, while still voting the party line.

9. Well, I hope he considers a straight, married woman's
view of religion and marriage. That is also a matter of freedom of religion. Don't I deserve the right to not have religion "pushed in my face" and marriage? I wrote what I did on purpose. All this sacred, holy, marriage has me FURIOUS, not just for my gay daughter, but for ME.

It's all about EQUAL Civil Rights, and freedom of, and FROM, religion too. I don't want Cardinal Whatshisname, or Rabbi Whoever, speaking for ME.

I live in Florida, which is definitely the Bible Belt too. I see it all the time.
