LUSH cosmetics has joined Freedom to Marry in a campaign to legalize gay marriage.

The campaign includes a kiss in on June 18 at 11:38AM (local time) at LUSH shops throughout the United States. The unusual start represents the 1,138 rights denied to gay and lesbian couples. The company said it hopes the event will attract at least 1,138 couples.

Throughout most of June, the company will convert its 53 shops into marriage equality campaign centers where people can learn why marriage matters to gay couples and their families and sign post cards calling on Congress to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), the Clinton-era law that bars federal agencies from recognizing the legal marriages of gay couples.

LUSH will also sell a limited-edition bubble bar with 100% of the proceeds going to Freedom To Marry's efforts to repeal DOMA. The lime and grapefruit scented Freedom Foamer Bubble Bar will retail for $5.95. It will be available online and at retail outlets throughout the United States and Canada.

LUSH is the second nationwide retailer behind Old Navy to promote gay rights by selling a limited-edition product during Gay Pride month.

1. I really like LUSH bath and body products, but
to know that buying them will be helping to bring about marriage equality makes it less of an indulgence and more of a necessity. That is just so cool of them to back Freedom to Marry. Thank you for posting this.
