A newlywed who finds it necessary to risk his marriage to a beautiful and accomplished wife and to risk his role in the House of Representatives (whether or not he loses his seat) is in desperate need of some kind of therapy. Whether he's an exhibitionist, a narcissist, a risk taker or what, I think he needs help.

I might add: a Congressman who sends suggestive pictures of himself to people who signed up to Twitter with him and NEVER agreed to sext, never asked for it --that verges on abusive or sick.

I'm glad Rep. Weiner is going to rehab. I find it sad that some are laughing about this.

And I do consider myself part of the community, to the extent that close family members are gay. I have supported them in their marriage, their adoption, and will be taking care of my proudly gay relative's little girl this summer. That makes me a part of a "community." I have been close to the LGBT community since the mid-1960s, through the Act Up years, and today. Because I work in the arts field, we are all part of a single community.

But this all has nothing to do with a prominent Congressman engaging in behavior that jeopardized his job and his personal life. Using your power and celebrity to hit on people is not normal. It wouldn't be normal for a straight or gay person. You sext with willing and equal partners, not followers who came to admire your politics. It's an abuse of trust and a very very stupid thing to do.

Do anything you want in your private life, but when you have a position to maintain the story is different, and not private. If you are a professor, for instance, gay or straight or transgender, and you maintain a Facebook or Twitter account to which your students subscribe, would you think it would be right for that professor to send naked pictures to their students? D'oh. No.
