Repent America files lawsuit
Repent America filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit Oct. 7 claiming that various city officials and organizers of last year’s OutFest conspired to violate Repent America’s free-speech rights, and other rights.

During the 2004, OutFest, 11 members of Repent America were arrested and charged with hate crimes and other offenses. Eventually, all charges were dropped by prosecutors, or dismissed by judges.

“OutFest was a national disgrace,” said Repent America’s Michael Marcavage said.

Marcavage said Repent America may add to the lawsuit some alleged violations that occurred at this week’s OutFest. Repent America members are seeking an unspecified amount in monetary damages.

1. a bogus suit
I read the article, and it said that Repent America was allowed to protest. What they wanted was to be a part of the parade, not just protesting on the sidelines.

Don't they realize that if they win the lawsuit, then it opens the door for, say, pro-choice protestors to demand to be a part of a St. Patrick's Day parade sponsored by Right to Life?

2. The bigots are hoist to their own petard
Wasn't it folks like "Repent America" who managed to keep gay contingents out of St. Patrick's Day parades?

When the shoe is on the other foot, they wail and gnash their teeth about how it pinches. Funny, isn't it?

3. My, my. . .what a double standard we have here. . .

Seems to me that these christo-fascists believe they not only have special rights because they like to pretend they are "christians" but should be able to force others to let them march in their block party. Well, let's just see how much precedent they can find to support this nonsense - in the meantime, why don't the organizers for OutFest charge them with attempting to incite a riot and cause intentional physical harm to both participants and onlookers by injecting themselves into the party?

Maybe the gays should countersue claiming that Repent America's attempt to participate was an act designed to disrupt and gag the right of the gay community to demonstrate.

I wish SOMEONE would tell me why, for example, the President of the United States can completely separate demonstrators from participating in the inaugeral parade, but we have to let them into the block party and mingle with our community?
