Cindy McCain reverses stance on DADT repeal
Keith Olbermann mentioned this last night during his segment with Dan Choi about DADT repeal. 24 hours earlier, she appeared in a great NOH8 video about anti-bullying. In the video, she talks about how discrimination like DADT contributes to bullying. Well, now she supports her husband in his support of bigotry and discrimination re: DADT. And I agree with John Aravosis...her footage should be excised from the video immediately. She's no friend of our community.

Yesterday, Cindy McCain - the wife of US Senator John McCain - released a video in which she criticized the US government "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," policy, and suggested that it gave bullies an incentive to bash gay youth, who then try to kill themselves.

CINDY MCCAIN:

Our political and religious leaders tell LGBT youth that they have no future.
They can't serve our country openly.
VARIETY OF SPEAKERS:

What's worse, these laws that legislate discrimination teach bullies that what they're doing is acceptable.
CINDY MCCAIN:

Our government treats the LGBT community like second class citizens, why shouldn't they?
Today, Cindy McCain is suddenly tweeting how pro-DADT she is (clearly, her homophobic husband, who is leading the charge on trying to filibuster the effort to repeal DADT, got to her). Which means, of course, that by her own words she now thinks she is responsible for gay kids committing suicide.

1. I wondered how she was able to keep peace at home
after publicly behaving like a real human being.

11. I'm not the LGBT forum "mom" but this hits me as misogynistic.
I'm going to make an appeal that we spin the discourse up, rather than down.

I think Cindy McCain is an ally. The same forces that are oppressing LGBT people have now muscled Cindy McCain back into line. Homophobia is like that.

Seems to me we should be reading between the lines, don't you think?

5. I think the fact
that she was publicly opposing her husband's stance was very important, as is the apparent fact that she has been told to STFU.

7. It would be nice to frame anti-bullying and pro-GLBT equality as bipartisan
Theodore Olson has done that nicely with marriage equality. He has said that the right to same-sex marriage should be an issue of fairness. Regardless of party affliation, regardless of ideology.

And that's why it would have been nice for someone like Cindy McCain, a Republican, to make that point.

But, well, in her case, that's inoperative.

18. No on H8 indeed...
I felt infuriated when I saw this inconsequential old woman with tape over her mouth on the No on H8 campaign.

Why REALLY believes that she believed what she was standing up for?
We are being "played" by Republicans.
