Appeals Court Extends Life of DADT
I was hesitant to post this...hadn't seen it anywhere else...I'm not in the mood for "experts" telling us this is a good thing.

SAN FRANCISCO – A federal appeals court on Monday indefinitely extended its freeze on a judge's order halting enforcement of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, heightening pressure on the Obama administration to persuade the U.S. Senate to repeal the law before a new Congress is sworn in.

A divided three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted the U.S. government's request for a stay while it challenges the trial court's ruling that the ban on openly gay service members is unconstitutional.

The same panel, composed of two judges appointed by President Ronald Reagan and one appointed by President Bill Clinton, on Oct. 20 imposed a temporary hold keeping "don't ask, don't tell" in place.

Monday's decision means gay Americans who disclose their sexual orientations still can't enlist in the armed forces and can be investigated and ultimately discharged if they already are serving.

2. I fear this will be dragged out for friggin' years. . .
and it is such an insult to our citizenship. The most ridiculous and insulting policy that underscores our second-class citizenship status!

5. I really don't understand how this serves
anyone's best interest. You'd think that by my age I'd be used to all these face slaps but no, it still stings.

I really can't imagine how horrible this is for those serving, or those who have already been discharged.

7. You would get along so much better here if you would just
start from the assumption of Obama's perfection and work backwards from there.

Then the things people here say will make so much more sense!

8. yeah
I sent a letter to Obama when the DOJ filed the appeal. I got a letter back explaining that they were "leading by example" along with the list of things that they believe are a list of accomplishments for GLBT's. Sort of along the line of "but some of my best friends are gay..."

This WH is not leading in this issue at all and it truly is disappointing. "Fierce advocate" of not so much.

9. I'm With Ya!
I'm fifty-seven and have been out for thirty-eight years now and believe me the slap in the face never stops hurting, nor does it hurt any less. I am so sick of this second-class citizenship shit. And don't expect Obama to show any moral leadership oon this...he has his reelection to think of.
