Target not the only $$$$ donor to anti-gay Tom Emmer
Yes, Target donated $150K, and they deserve our disgust (and boycotts). But plenty of other businesses donated large wads of cash to this bigot who wants to eradicate our rights, and who pals around with people who want us dead:

Best Buy, Inc $100,000.00 - Cash

snip

Federated Mutual Insurance Company $100,000.00 - Cash

Hubbard Broadcasting, Inc. $100,000.00 - Cash

snip

Red Wing Shoes $50,000.00 - Cash

Regis Corporation $100,000.00 - Cash
(12,800 beauty salons worldwide.)

snip

Much more at the link...

9. Many of them seem to be local MN businesses
Or at least the type you'd never hear of unless you were looking for something really specific. It's good to know about them, though, so we can protect ourselves.

15. I've seen them around
Probably in a shopping mall, though I don't think I've seen one since the late 80s or early 90s. Typical chain hair salon.

10. The thanks actually go to my wife
She does all the work for Base8, which is where I got the information, and she laboriously transcribed all of those donations from PDF files. Why MN doesn't have the data online in regular format like anybody else in teh 21st century I'll never know.

11. ok - best buy is easy
I can get the same stuff cheaper off Amazon.

But Target?

I can't shop at Walmart. Now Target? Leaving...KMart?

KMart is undoubtedly not ideologically pure, either. And their prices aren't as good as Target.

Until someone can give me a reasonable alternative, or Target becomes "more evil" than Walmart...heck, I have to shop somewhere.

(just to be clear, I don't do a lot of shopping anywhere. And clothing is mostly purchased at Goodwill these days)

17. I'm feeling the pain too
In the past year I've had to give up Whole Foods, Target and a number of other stores/products I liked. But some things I refuse to do, and funding my own oppression is one of them. Nonetheless, I never demand others do anything they don't want to.

BTW, if you have a Big Lots in your area they might be an option. Costco is also good for some things, particularly if you want to buy in bulk (they also sell clothing, housewares and other items you might not expect). For clothing Ross, TJMaxx and Marshalls are good price-wise, if not always on selection.

18. There isn't a CostCo nearby
but...we have friends that live near one - and they're likely to get a membership (I hate the idea of having to buy a membership to shop, btw) when their kids start eating like teenagers (the oldest is 8) - or when they start bringing groups of friends over to raid the kitchen. We looked, and the cost of a membership didn't really seem worth it to us.

There's a Big Lots not too far away - though in the opposite direction from where we usually go. I might check them out.

Generally, Goodwill is super-cheap and often has like-new clothing (hard to beat shirts and pants for $3 a piece), and there's one right near where I work.

14. I am so confused here and always have been
For the life of me I can't understand what being gay has to do with the downfall of this country. I just can't understand why republican politicians are constantly ranting and raving against gay and lesbians. That is a life style I wouldn't choose, but I believe that people should be allowed to pick their own.

I will never ever understand people that WANT EVERYONE TO DO WHAT THEY DO. And think if they don't they should be arrested, railed against and all the stuff they do about them.

16. Being gay has absolutely nothing
to do with the downfall of this country. But the RRRW needs an enemy, someone to demonize. It's what keeps them mobilized and focused. It's what gives them their identity. The "Commies" were it until the end of the Cold War. Afterward they were left hanging until they decided we were the worst threat to humanity. Now that they're finding out it's harder to demonize us they're slowly shifting to "the Illegals".

Read Chris Hedges' American Fascists and Bob Altmeyer's The Authoritarians. They'll tell you all you need to know about the RRRW, their mindset and their behavior.
