http://www.outinallentown.com/home/news.asp?articleid=34069April 12, 2010 (New Hope, Pa.)-Organizers and participants of New Hope Celebrates Pride announced the dates-May 10-16-- and lineup for their seventh annual week of Pride. The week celebrates the diverse and unique atmosphere of Pennsylvania's hallowed artistic hamlet, New Hope, "the little town that DID!" New Hope is located in Bucks County, Pa. along the scenic Delaware River between New York City and Philadelphia.
For two hundred years New Hope has been a leader in the human rights movement, a town where folks of all sorts live and mingle together for the purposes of commerce, community and peaceful cohabitation. Pride week is organized by the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgenedered and allied community but is a festival participated in and enjoyed by all.
"It's a Family Affair" is the theme for the 2010 New Hope Celebrates Pride parade on May 15, the cornerstone event, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The parade will march down famed Ferry St. where over 200 years ago militia forces led by U.S. forefather and later President James Monroe marched toward a battle that turned the tide of the country's Revolutionary War. Leading this year's parade will be Grand Marshal, Pennsylvania State Sen. Daylin Leach, assisted by Pennsylvania Human Relations Committee Chair and Vice-Chair of the Governor's Cabinet on Disability Rights, Stephen Glassman.
Leach is a leader and vocal advocate for many equality issues brought to Pennsylvania legislators. Previous Grand Marshals for New Hope Celebrates Pride parade have included U.S. Congressman Patrick Murphy (2009,) Gov. Edward Rendell (2008,) and Glassman.
Leading the parade's music will be New York City's Big Apple Corps Marching Band and Philadelphia's LGBT Marching Band, among others. Floats made by local restaurants, bars, individuals and neighborhoods within New Hope will add to the mix and color of the parade.
Some floats will feature entertainers appearing in the festival venues, including "America's Got Talent" finalists The Glamazons, "large size" singing sensations, and the D.C. Cowboys specialty dance troupe. A review stand will be housed on Mechanic St., presided over by New Hope's Mayor Laurence Keller, Borough Council President Sharyn Keiser, and hosted by local personality Gerry Mason.
