Citing same-sex marriage bill, Washington Archdiocese ends foster care program
I guess denying people their civil rights is more important than needy children.

:puke:

The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington has ended its 80-year-old foster-care program in the District rather than license same-sex couples, the first fallout from a bitter debate over the city's move to legalize same-sex marriage.

Catholic Charities, which runs more than 20 social service programs for the District, transferred its entire foster-care program -- 43 children, 35 families and seven staff members -- to another provider, the National Center for Children and Families. Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6), the D.C. Council member who chairs the Committee on Human Services, said he didn't know of any problems with the transfer, which happened Feb. 1.

In addition to foster care, the center runs programs in Montgomery County and the District for homeless families and victims of domestic violence.

The marriage bill, which was approved and signed in December, is expected to become law in the next couple of weeks if it clears a congressional review period.

3. Roman Catholic bishops are agents of a foreign state
attempting to influence the U.S. government. They should have to register accordingly, just like all other foreign lobbyists.

4. Excellent. I Am Delighted To See the Catholic Church Out of the Foster Care Business in DC
I'd love to see this trend spread to other programs in other cities.

The more we can limit this hate group's impact on society, the better.

Adding: And yes, what the catholic archdiocese is doing proves that they were in it for the money, not for the welfare of the children.

9. Because we hate gays, we're going to hurt these children
Sounds like typical religious logic to me.

11. As a Follower of Martin Luther, I Can Only Say "Thanks" on Behalf of the Children
I do understand that a lot of money goes with them (temporarily, until reputable sources can be found), but should we really mourn the loss of a corrupt organization influencing our children?

12. As Jesus Would Say. . .
As Jesus would say, "Suffer the little children to get the hell away from me, because I don't associate with those kind of people."

We all remember his sermon on the mount denouncing fags, huh?

17. yeah wouldn't want to interfere with the freedom of religion
to interfere with the freedoms of Americans who happen to be gay. that would just be awful for religion you know and this country was founded by puritans, not to be confused with the relatively liberal founding fathers, as those idiots often do.

There is a reason we aren't forced to go to church every sunday here, like when the puritans decided this land was their land.

15. While they're at it why don't they do the same to countries that allow divorces! That's a sin to!
Seriously, this whole 'abandon the places that let gays marry' is really reminding me of how the Catholic church fought divorce because of it being sinful in the bible to get one. The Pope excommunicated a king and forced him to wait out in the cold for several days to see him because the king dared tried to get a divorce. But nowadays, divorce, ok, you have to get an annulment of the marriage, we don't recognize government divorces.

Eventually the church will have to call it quits and give up on opposition to gay marriage to when they see that they can't keep suppressing it when it's legal in most of Europe, North America, and other first world countries with a lot of Catholics.
