I hadn't seen this posted anywhere but the PIGS at Notre Dame who produce and publish this stuff need to be exposed. I'm providing just a few excerpts from many links available regarding this story.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The independent student newspaper for the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College has published a staff editorial apologizing for a cartoon that made a joke about violence against gays.
The editorial Friday says The Observer newspaper created an "egregious" error in judgment when it published the cartoon Wednesday.
The newspaper also ran an apology from the cartoon's writers. They say the cartoon was meant to address intolerance of homosexuality on the Catholic university's campus but was offensive.
The cartoon depicts a conversation that says the "easiest way to turn a fruit into a vegetable" is with "a baseball bat."

In a deplorable example of catholic insensitivity and open homophobia the Notre Dame student newspaper The Observer published a reprehensible cartoon endorsing anti-gay violence.
The cartoon entitled "The Mobile Party," was drawn by three Notre Dame students. One character, who appears to be a hacksaw, asks the other character: "What is the easiest way to turn a fruit into a vegetable?"
"I don't know," replies the other.
"A baseball bat," says the saw.

And lest anyone buy the apology from the university about this cartoon, consider this:
http://www.queerty.com/notre-dames-college-newspaper-filled-with-boring-student-government-reports-pro-gay-bashing-cartoons-20100115/Because college students are, so often, stupid, and they live in a bubble of keg stands and study groups, sometimes they do very terrible things. Like publish a cartoon in a student newspaper that advocates beating the crap out of homos.
Notre Dame University's The Observer newspaper published the above "The Mobile Party" cartoon this week; its message is pretty self-explanatory. Except regular readers of the paper might not be all that shocked by its tone: "The original version of the cartoon, which included the gay-bashing response of 'AIDS,' was rejected by the paper," relays PrideSource. "Both versions were posted on a blog presumably run by the cartoonist, but were taken down on Jan. 14. This is not the first time Mobile Party cartoons have caused a stir, noted Notre Dame student Austin Choi-Fitzpatrick in an e-mail to Between The Lines.
Past cartoons – both accepted and rejected by The Observer's editors – have included racist, sexist and generally prejudiced comments, including jokes about kidnapping, racial profiling, rape and overweight women."
