1. could I nitpick please
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 04:04 AM by Skittles
I think the term "gay rights" should not be used - it makes it sound like gay folk want something special when really it's just equal rights - but please correct me if I'm wrong (maybe it just reminds me of "gay agenda")

2. I KICK YER ASS!
But I want equal rights, not special rights. I'm happy calling them "Equal Rights Amendment" and I agree with your reasoning.

7. Gay Rights is an umbrella term thats not going away any time soon
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 01:59 PM by FreeState
The term is used as an umbrella for all civil rights the GLBT movement is trying to gain. I see your reasoning, but its not likely to happen - its widely used by GLBT groups and has been since the 60s.

5. Thank you SO MUCH for this. You spared me some frantic looking later tonight!
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 07:58 AM by Unvanguard
:)

Edit: The New York Times Editorial Board, at least, appears to think there's a shot at marriage equality in New Jersey even with a Christie win, in the "lame-duck" period before Corzine leaves office. I don't think this will happen, but at least there's a chance.

8. Nice but wrong link on NJ governor race
That link is for Chris Christie, the Republican. John Corzine is our man. They're two separate people, not a first and last name.

17. For Maine use the Bangor Daily News.
I think it's the No on 1/PME campaign's official source for returns as they come in as well.

23. Yeah, the problem is that site doesn't say where the votes are coming from
What really baffles me about the site is how it claims X out of Y registered voters have voted today, yet all of the vote tallies for the last hour have had far more voters showing up then actual votes cast.

It will be a tight race, for sure, but turnout was encouraging, so hopefully we can pull through. This one will take hours to get a hold of, I'm sure.

It _just_ jumped back to our favor:

REJECT SAME-SEX MARRIAGE LAW
No 14969 54.60%
Yes 12446 45.40%

30 of 605 (5 %) of precincts have been reported.

Still a long way to go. This is going to be a long night isn't it? :scared:

27. I'm calling it a night otherwise i'll end up with an ulcer...
I'm still terribly worried I'm going to wake up tomorrow to a huge letdown... I'm already disappointed that:

REJECT SAME-SEX MARRIAGE LAW
Yes 208201 51.82%
No 193545 48.18%

+200k people in my state are bigots. :-( I'm still burned this is even up for a vote. Once again the tyranny of the majority will be forced upon a minority.

28. It seems
the majority of voters in Maine are in favor of unequal rights :-(

Gay marriage...HELL NO!...oh, but medical marijuana, hey sure, why not? A question of civil rights should never be put up for a ballot initiative.
