Jamaican town imposes 'Gay Eradication Day'
Today has been proclaimed 'Gay Eradication Day' by residents of the McGregor Gully community in East Kingston. Residents say that they will be taking action as a two-week notice given to all gays and lesbians to flee the community has now expired.

The Jamaica Star is reporting that two weeks ago, residents of McGregor Gully declared they were fed up with gay behavior, and ordered all gays to leave by today. Those who did not leave would "suffer the consequences." Those residents who are willing to admit that they are taking part in the gay rousting say they are doing it to protect their families and in an effort to keep their community from falling into disrepute.

According to the residents, the main problem is a local hangout that is frequented by lesbians who "kiss, hug, and even touch each other." And the community's anger is directed mostly at those lesbians, though any gay men who reside in the area are also expected to leave.

The residents say they will not stop until their community is "gay free" and are not afraid of resorting to extreme measures, though they would not explicitly say what those measures might be.

1. Another reason not to frequent the Western Caribbean.
And if they could get away with it, there'd be a lot of towns here in the US who would do the same thing.

3. Jamaica is just a bad, bad place.
Whenever I see their commercials on television, it reminds me of what an ugly, horrible place it is. Who wants to go see the scenery when the people there are so nasty? :puke:

There are nicer places to visit. Spend your money wisely and don't promote this crap.

6. Burn That Fucking Island to the Ground
Hateful society the world would be much better off without. I can't see one of those "One love, one heart" Jamaica commercials without vomitting.

7. Jamaica would be a great place to test The Gay Bomb.
Return of the 'gay bomb'

You could hardly avoid the 'gay bomb' story last week; it was everywhere, including the BBC, several major newspapers, and the US news networks. However, few of them mentioned the fact that story was originally reported by New Scientist over two years ago.

Did the Pentagon really propose building a bomb that would turn enemy soldiers gay to distract them from fighting? Essentially, yes. But this was just one concept in a document that contained a variety of highly imaginative ideas.

<snip>

The document outlines various possible chemical weapons aimed at achieving three objectives. The first is harassment, with the suggested use of chemical agents that would attract biting or stinging insects. The second is invisibly marking the enemy, so that infiltrators could be identified later. And the third is influencing enemy behaviour, so that discipline and morale are adversely affected.

<snip>

When the story first came out, Pentagon spokespeople quickly denied that the proposal was ever taken seriously, and suggested that it was rejected out of hand. But the Sunshine Project later discovered that the document was still being circulated at least seven years after it was first released.

8. God, I Wish There Was Such A Thing.
I'd be just like Magneto in the first X-Men movie: "Those people down there control our fate, and the fate of every other living ! Well, soon our fate will be theirs."

10. I Fly Through Jamaica
on the way to Bonaire to SCUBA dive and the landing in Montego Bay is eye opening. The hills are for of Mega mansions surrounded by high walls. The base of the hills are covered with tin shacks. This extreme disparity of wealth makes people angry and they take that anger out on those less protected than they are, in this case gays. On one trip our plane needed a repair that would take a couple of days. They put us on a shuttle bus and took us to a really expensive resort and treated us like kings. Everything was paid, rooms, food and drinks. I was a bit nervous since they refused to stamp our passports and did not involve customs for our transfer. We were there illegally in my opinion. The resort was enclosed behind huge walls and had guards with machine guns and shell belts over their chests patrolled the grounds. The staff were nice on the surface but you could hear their contempt for the guests in their voice (maybe resentment for our supposed wealth). Why anyone would pay good money to fly to a place where they are locked in a compound is beyond me. Although the island is beautiful I would not roam it without body guards. The fact remains that Jamaica is unsafe for everyone.

12. The weird thing is I've known many ex-Jamaican people here in the US -
Edited on Sun Nov-01-09 11:07 PM by closeupready
One was a dear friend who was openly gay and died of AIDS a few years' back. I also know others, and they are almost all very warm, wonderful people, some of whom are quite gay-friendly.

My experience with these individuals is what makes it so hard to wrap my head around the overwhelming evidence that Jamaican society is so deeply homophobic. I would not step foot on that island, and only partly due to the homophobia - other heterosexual couples I've spoken with have told me that it is a threatening, dark place (not in a racist way!). God knows what that means, but I'll never find out firsthand.

14. rural medieval backward backwater culture
it's the same in every country outside of the cities - Jamaica is no exception.

Just the same, I think they should organize a homophobe hunt, issue ultimatums, and do some strategic violence. If I lived there I would be out to add some trophies to the ones already on my wall. Our people need to learn to dish it out and take no prisoners, and maybe these fuckers will think twice about singling us out.

They hunt what they perceive as weak.
