The White House just called LGBT's part of a Pajama-clad Internet Fringe
Just for asking for Equal Rights

Source: http://www.pamshouseblend.com/diary/13468/#174524

In an NBC report less than 24 hours after the President declared his unwavering support for the LGBT community, the White House has decided to sh*t on citizen journalists on the left who are simply advocating for our civil rights. This is a real shot across the bow. Via Americablog:

NBC News' John Harwood just reported that an Obama administration staffer advisor today called the gay community part of "the Internet left fringe," and therefore the White House is not concerned about the gay community's, and other Democrats', concerns that the president isn't keeping his promises. As part of its report on today's gay march, NBC's Harwood said the following:

Barack Obama is doing well with 90% or more of Democrats so the White House views this opposition as really part of the Internet left fringe.

Harwood then went on to say that the White House thinks that:

For a sign of how seriously the White House does or doesn't take this opposition, one adviser told me those bloggers need to take off the pajamas, get dressed, and realize that governing a closely divided country is complicated and difficult.

Wow. Nice to know that asking to pass federal legislation (ENDA) so my fellow North Carolinian LGBTs don't get canned for being who they are is a "fringe" activity. I must remind the White House that North Carolina delivered for him in 2008, and LGBT support was key, and was leaned on for support in a big way.

As a gay North Carolinian and a DUer, I take wholehearted, deep offense. Here's the video. I'm not sure how to embed it correctly. Maybe a nice mod will help me out.

12. You mean *this* Rick Warren?
friend of the Clinton Global Initiative?

I wonder what he tells Bill?

Anyhoo, this is the third time I've seen this bogus WH attribution posted, and wouldn't be surprised if there are more. Misinformation spreads like wildfire, it seems, when there's an opportunity to get outraged at the Obama administration all over again.

15. See, that's what I'm thinking
that it's shit-stirring and nothing more than an attempt to rile the teabag nuts. We've shown our strength and numbers. This stinks to high-heaven.

6. A supposed unnamed source
with Rahm Emmanuel's hand up his arse, or was Harwood riffing? I'd trust either one as far as I could sit here and spit out a snake.

I'm tired of the schizophrenia. This "gimme your vote and gimme your money and I'll give you pretty words one day and a nasty DOJ brief the next" ain't working for me. The President needs to step on his staff. I think he means what he said about getting things done on our behalf, but he needs to kick a few butts into line.

Now. You KNOW freeperville is going to have a field day with this shit.

4. I had two "fringe" friends march today
Real left-wing fringe wackjobs....two guys in their 50's, been together almost 20 years, own a home in the suburbs, have a dog, work and pay taxes, take care of an elderly parent, one fought in Vietnam. They're totally scary fringe people who want something zany and fringy like the right to marry. Scary shit! Boo!

Please link to an official on-the-record statement from Obama or Gibbs that says this, or delete it.

7. caution: don't trust Harwood and some "anonymous" staffer
until the alleged "wh staffer" is identified and what he actually said made explicit, don't trust corporate shill Harwood's bullshit.

but with that said, the video is an insult to all gay people

and also President Obama gave a great speech

but...

deeds, not words, Mr. Nobel prize winning President.

Make your promises come true

9. I don't buy it either
Like I posted above, this is some real turd-stirring. The President needs to take charge and kick some butts into line. I'm pissed.

I posted this on a "just be aware of what's going on" basis. I appreciate the rejoinders.

NBC's terminology and NBC's POV.

If you can't listen any more critically than that you should turn off the TV.

That does not sound like a coherent statement. I would seriously wonder who said what and when.
Come to think of it, that is 3rd hand information.

It was an "anonymous WH aide" cited by one reporter, that never even mentioned the LGBT demonstrators in the statement about bloggers.

Looks like crap journalism to me.

13. read this carefully....
Harwood was specifically asked about the march today.

Twice Harwood responded with "this opposition", meaning, the opposition within the gay community. This is what they were discussing - in total - the opposition in the gay community. Then came the fringe quote.

Of course it was about us.

20. I'm sticking with her
I've been on her site about as long as it has been around. I rarely post there but I read it daily. I've been on Facebook about a month and a half and read her updates there about as quickly as they come around.

It's a sad fact about the LGBT community, though, and you're right. It is a very fickle community. We're generally not joiners and when we do join anything, our loyalties are not very firm. We squabble amongst ourselves often.

Then again, that's why I love us so. We are so very diverse and so very full of ideas and dreams. We're just not quite so good at implementing.

I'm sure some "resourceful" DU apologists are already getting the low-down and infiltrating this thread to tell us how we should really feel about this. Pam probably got a parking ticket in the early 90s, and that'll be reason enough to discredit anything she says.. Hmmmm, discredit what she says, or shield the President from any type of criticism.. You decide!

Just a few months ago, a white DUer posted a picture of her and implied that she's not black enough.

Even as jaded as I have become, that shocked me a bit.

19. Many at HCR Dinner were legislative savvy, understand at least what the admin. is doing, as compared
to some who want everything tomorrow. But that's true with many issues, and groups that differ on patience, incrementalism and knowing that we need to bring the military along on DADT, which has gotten more fundamentalist Christian, for instance.

Harwood is usually fairer than most, so I would want to know the question and who the aide speaks for.

And as for incrementalism - it requires an increment now and then.

21. No, they did not. Saying otherwise is completely dishonest.
In talking about dissatisfaction on the left, a White House staffer made a flippant comment pointing out--correctly--that the President has a 90% approval rating among Democrats, so they're not worried about the other 10%.

it was +4 at one point then a load of unrecs. I'm not sure if it's the topic or some folks just don't want the message to surface. I'm pretty sure freeperville is going to have a field day just because the President has pledged his support and some pretty heavy hitters showed up at the march today, then this little "anonymous source" crappage shows up.

We shall see what we shall see.

34. Seeing as how Rahm regards the online left as
"impractical and counterproductive" and has taken more than one opportunity to snipe at us, yeah. The rest of the staff have had to clean up after him before. I wouldn't be surprised in the least. I never liked him, never trusted him, and I don't mind saying so.
