I have a new partner, he's gay and I'm a gender-queer trans-man. I have been going steady with him for a few weeks. We really are falling for each other.He is very gentle affectionate and sweet.He isn't freaked out that I'm not on hormones or getting a phalloplasty any time soon and probably can't afford one.

This is what is pissing me off. Not that he's in recovery.
But some fundie shit head barked out in his group how he dating a transgender was WRONG.Than on top of that a few other people yelled at and chastised my BF for telling this fundie she was wrong and fuck your god.,WTF??!!

I have been hearing faggots yelled from cars passing not just fag, anymore. I see the bigots staring and muttering homophobic bullshit as we hold hands walking around a store.

I think christianity is the entire reason gay bashes think they can get a free pass to be bigoted,because the god of the bible itself really is a hypocritical two faced,sociopath hate spewing bigot and there are shit-loads of"conservative" fundies out here who share those disgusting personality traits they stick up for each other like a gang of bullies .I think why they are so mouthy is because the culture in this sprawling suburban hell tolerates bigotry because there are ALOT of bigots out here to begin with..

BTW on a more positive side,I went to Baltimore Pride on Sunday. It was a nice time, I was there with my BF.It was interesting that so many people that were walking by,us.. including people from the gay paper and all asked us for our picture.Once I saw one done of us after one guy had taken of us together,on his little camera LCD screen, than I realized we DO make a cute couple.

means you CANNOT judge yourself by what other people say, or rather, you have to be willing to dismiss judgement if it has no fact.

It used to kill me to have a strong opinion on DU and then have people "not like" me, until I realized that the standard I have for myself is not the standard many people have for themselves. I am equally hard on myself. You can't judge yourself by what other people think, especially if you don't know them well enough to like or dislike them, to respect or disrespect them. All you can do is be centered in your own opinion.

Maybe in recovery your partner needs to realize that support is a buffet. Take the good parts, the cautionary tales, the human experience, good and bad and learn from them. Dismiss the judgement - it serves no one.

Now if wants to take charge of it, he can just say "I value the lessons your life mistakes have shown me. But listen close: I'm not one of your mistakes. You can't fix yourself by talking about what you think is wrong in my life. So, let's continue on about the things that make YOU a loser."

Okay, I would probably kick the dude's teeth out his ass and ask him if he had any other opinions he wanted to share, but that's not a good small group dynamic.

15. I assume the recovery group is AA. Those fundie freaks need a lesson in AA traditions.

At a minimum they're violating traditions 1, 3, 5 & 10.

1. The fundies' bigotry does not serve the common welfare.
3. They are trying to impose conformity on other members.
5. They are deviants with regard to AA's primary purpose (carrying the message to the alcoholic who still suffers).
10. "The Alcoholics Anonymous groups oppose no one." 'nuff said.

Bigots like these sully AA's image and drive people away from recovery.

I hope your partner reads them the riot act once more and is able to find a more welcoming group.
