I just have to say: No Excuses. = is = or it’s not.
Oh come on here. The public (including the miniscule self identifying gay public) are supposed to believe that finally acknowledging gay civil rights would be an impediment to a “public” single payer health care plan. Ha! That would be funny, if it weren’t so sad.

It’s sad that the “real change” candidate made lots of promises to lots of people that are still waiting for the IOUs. On the other hand, the banksters have enjoyed a seamless transition between the previous administration and this one. You can get fries with your bailout now. I’m kidding.

Why should Obama care about this issue at all even though he promised that he would? Well, state after state, I think we’re up to six, are beginning to acknowledge these civil and equal rights among GLBT citizens. It seems it would be convenient for him to wait for a plurality of states to get it right. Are you kidding me? California still can’t settle on it. And I’m not so sure that California is that good a barometer anymore. (MA, CT, VT, IA, NH,ME

I suspect that Oama administration doesn’t want to be tagged as the one that granted equal rights for GLBT people. There are hints that the Obama administration won’t even consider any action on overturning DOMA or DADT until a second lame duck term, if even elected to one.

As a gay man without health insurance, I’m beginning to wonder what any of President Obama’s public health policy would do for me. In short, I see no difference between the Obama policy approach and that of the GOP when it comes to my civil rights. Guess what? I have no one to vote for. I’ll still do what I can in my local 2010 elections, but I am likely to shun the 2012 national vote. After all, neither party is prepared to grant or acknowledge my sexual orientation with the equal and fair rights of a citizen of the United States. Fuck you. A pox on both your houses.

I’m just saying.

Count on me when I can count on you or have to count you out.

1. Bravo
The type of people who are against LGBT equality are already likely against single-payer/public health care. Even if they're not we have to stop bowing to this "Wait until after the next election/this issue gets taken care of/the war/we have more Dems in the (whatever)/public opinion is more on our side/etc..." stuff . Otherwise we will never achieve equality. Our families and lives matter, and it's time we stop letting others dictate when they'll get around to doing something about it. In the meantime they still expect our money, support and votes.

Count on me when I can count on you or have to count you out.

:applause:

2. Fries with your bailout? No, unfortunately you're not kidding.
It's time to organize for 2010. Obviously, our message did not quite come across in 2008.

(1) Target any and all rethuglicans for defeat.
(2) Target the blue dog DINOs for defeat.

3. Is that the "blame the victim" strategy?
The reason we are getting backstabbed by this administration is because we (the GLBT community) didn't work hard enough to elect Dems in previous elections? And that the solution is for us to work even harder and donate even more money to the party that has turned its back on us? Riiiiiiight....

Gotta message for ya -- supposedly we helped to elect an administration of "change". Supposedly we have a Dem President, House of Representatives and Senate, elected with the money and support of the GLBT community. It was Obama's DoJ that submitted that brief, not the party of Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin and John Boehner.

Yes, let's reorganize for future elections so all that energy can be diverted from organizing for our rights NOW. :sarcasm: It's the GOP's fault, it's the DINO's fault, hell it's OUR fault -- it's everyone's fault but that of the Obama administration.

Nice try, but no cigar. We need to get a message across all right -- and it needs to land squarely on President Obama's desk.

4. Excuse me? I did not say, nor did I imply that we didn't work hard enough...
And you know something? I really don't appreciate your smug-ass reply.

Perhaps I didn't clarify my comment. And perhaps you need to sit your ass down and take a nice deep breath.

And you're right. IT IS Obama's fault for pandering to the GLBT crowd for votes and support and then treating us like a punk-ass bitch. And you know something, it's our damned fault for letting him.

5. Whether or not you are offended by my interpretation of your post...
Edited on Tue Jun-16-09 10:02 AM by theHandpuppet
... what I expressed in my reply reflects exactly how it came across to me. If, however, you agree with me that it's Obama's fault for betraying his GLBT supporters, I saw nothing of that in your post and no matter how many DINOs or Rethuglicans get voted out of office in 2010 it won't make a difference. We hold the winning hand NOW and NOW is the time for action. I'm not going to invest more time and money to elect even more Democrats in 2010 and 2012 if the party simply forgets us the day after the election. Been down that road way too many times.

And you can save the vulgarities for another poster.

6. How is anyone of the average citizen mold letting anyone
At 1600 Pennsylvannia "letting 'em" do something?

We do not count. We are expendable except every so often when the Democratic party gets all user friendly. Needing our votes, we hear the message that the wars will be stopped, the civil rights of every American will be acknowledged, and the average American won't be bankrupt after one semi-major illness. Then when the Dem Presidential candidate does get in, suddenly we are to not be seen and not heard.
