'Rights Again in 2010'

First of all, let me say that I have not vetted this group and I can't say whether or not we should throw massive amounts of money their way. Perhaps others can provide their opinions.

They do seem to have a good idea for a future initiative...and there's no reason why we can't support two CA initiatives in 2010. They list this on their homepage as option number 3:

...

3) We can amend the constitution in such a way that we enable subsequent lawsuits against Prop 8. For example, if we amended the constitution to read: "any right afforded to one...group must be afforded to all," a new lawsuit could be filed since two amendments of equal weight would be in opposition to one another.

The advantage for this type of initiative is that it could gain the support of other minority groups who are concerned about their future rights in California. There were a large number of amicus (friend-of-the-court) briefs submitted in the Prop 8 case by such minority groups which were arguing against Prop 8 on the grounds that rights could be taken away from other minorities in the future, based on the Prop 8 ruling. Justice Moreno gave the only dissenting opinion in the Prop 8 case, basically arguing that a constitutional revision would be necessary to remove a fundamental right from a protected minority. The CASC justices did seem to reach consensus that this was the central question to answer in the Prop 8 case, unfortunately they could not reach that conclusion based on existing law, although Moreno does attempt to shoot down the majority opinion.

Here is the website for this organization working on its own initiative:
