For you American Idol/Adam people...
Edited on Thu May-14-09 05:56 PM by WillBowden
I do not watch the show. I do not really much care who wins or loses. The track record of Idol contestants is not really all that stable. I do, however, care about the people here. If they like the man then so be it. I hope this is well received.

Gay Idol? Campy Adam Lambert inspires the crowd
By The Associated Press
05.14.2009 5:53pm EDT

(New York) The other night, after her 3-year-old son was in bed, confirmed Adam Lambert fanatic Sue Murrell was glued to her DVR, watching “American Idol.”

She was also glued to her computer, chatting with members of the pro-Lambert Facebook group she founded. And to her phone, too, where she voted for Lambert at least 100 times in two hours.

“My husband thinks I’m totally nuts,” says the 35-year-old Illinois mom, an office manager for a moving company.

Perhaps, but there are millions just like Murrell, fans whose passions have been inspired by the unabashedly campy, cheerfully over-the-top Lambert, with his back nail polish, his “guyliner” and that jet-black, asymmetrical mop of hair that has no place in the natural world.

1. For most normal people, gay people aren't some weird thing to fear when its
face to face knowledge of the person.. like Ellen.. etc. Its when the crazy fundies come out of their caves and scream about morality and "pervertedness" and "molesting children".. when those lines become blurred, what person in their right mind would support some crazed, sexed, child molestor? That's why the whole gay debate isn't working. The people that told us to fear were liars and tortures.. Gay debate lost people jobs and started 2 wars. Some people realize its a non-issue and have gone on with their own lives.. Yeah, there's still those crazies, but I think more and more people aren't listening.. and Lambert is yet another example of someone just talented and a wonderful gift to the world.

6. I love to watch him -
he is a great entertainer, a huge talent, and by most accounts, a real sweetheart. And gorgeous.

(Straight woman who adores Adam checking in. :D )

He can really rock out, and his entertainment factor is off the charts. I really hope he wins because he is the best contestant.

3. Adam was born to perform
I like American Idol, knowing full well that it is what it is. But with contestants that are very talented - and there have been a good few over the years - you do see good entertainment, if only in snippets.

Adam is one of those. He has a natural singing skill, an ease in excelling that probably took a lot of work, but still came easy. And he has the other attributes that make him a natural fit in the entertainment business: his good looks, his casual confidence, an appreciation for other artists, all without much behind him in terms of years and experience. He is quite simply, a natural.

I love that he's campy, and a bit ambiguous with his styling. In A-I it's supposed to be all about his voice, but hey - who's kidding who. Winning this competition just gets you a free pass into the showbiz club, it doesn't renew your membership. There have been plenty of "winners" in 8 seasons who have gone practically nowhere, and wouldn't even have an audience if A-I didn't give them a guest song on the show every year or two.

Adam can sing, and he can sing rock in a very real way. Early Robert Plant comes to mind - effortless, soulful, huge range, some edge in the voice, but sweet when the part calls for it. Ultimately I would not dare to compare the two in terms of long-range impact, and much of Plant's success was brought forth by Jimmy Page and the rest of Zep.

I know people will bash this show, and that's fine - TV is mostly a wasteland, and yes, there is always something educational on that I should be watching (!)

4. Adam Lambert is a truly talented man
Edited on Thu May-14-09 06:21 PM by sandyj999
He has what they call "it". I have watched American Idol since the beginning. I know some will say "get a life" but it's my choice. I don't care whether he is gay, straight, or in between because that doesn't negate his talent. I would expect that he won't win because the "fundies" will all join together and vote against him. That is what they are experts at doing. But he will do just fine without the "title".

8. I'm not much for AI or Pop music in general . . .
I have it on as background noise most of the season.

When Adam did Ring of Fire, I took notice.
Very creative, he made it into something new and he really owned it.

11. he's got talent, no doubt
I personally think that Danny had more musicality, but also took a lot less risk. Adam verges on gimmickry, but all in all, we vote not for the best singer at all. We vote for the singer we LIKE the best.

Least talented but most likable is Kris - but I'm not a voter. If I voted I would support Adam though - art requires talent AND taking risks to go someplace other people haven't yet.

Oh and I could care less what anyone does or does not do with their pink parts - not any of my business.
