23. I was able to figure out your intention at once...! ;->
But I also couldn't resist chiming in on this subthread. I didn't vote and my feelings are not hurt. ;)

(Actually, I'm interested to see the poll and the opinions and the reasons.)

26. I am heartened by the response...
...considering the crap that was said by people in the "Sex Worker's" thread a while back.

It's good to know queers have better sense than those tools.

and stop pretending as though if we damn them enough, their lives will miraculously get better

6. a tough one for me
a friend used to frequent them. I'd think most men have at least 'thought' about it. However, I think it's silly to assume that people aren't going to do what they want with their bodies, and even as a believer in Christ, I still feel people should be able to do with their bodies as they choose, legally - each person is responsible for their actions - so let them decide. So, I say yes.

Legalize it, tax it. Legalize weed. Tax it. The republicans would scream it's sin, but the fact of the matter is they really would only be pissed that they would be getting TAXED! ;)

22. I support decriminalization.
Edited on Mon Mar-09-09 06:49 PM by lightningandsnow
Legalization treats sex work as a vice to be strictly controlled.

Decriminalization treats it like work.

Although I'm sure a lot of people here meant decriminalization rather than legalization. But yes, no more criminalization!

25. Well, I certainly believe adults should be able to do what they want with their bodies
As long as it doesn't harm anyone else or the environment.

I worry about exploitation of the workers, though, although I'm not sure that it would get any worse than it is now. I often wonder how it is as a job. (And I'm sure there are multiple answers to that.) Should find a book on that and read it, I guess.

Now if all prostitutes could work at the Blue Moon Lodge....! ;)

27. I voted yes, of course
Not only yes but FUCK YES!

The sooner we treat prostitution as a valid occupation the sooner the dumb masses will accept prostitutes as human beings and work to actually protect them as we would anyone else.

I want proper enfranchisement, I want unions and politicians willing to speak out in their favor and I will work towards this goal until the day I die.

29. Yes. Of course.
No brainer...but I live near Reno and the Bunny Ranch for crissakes .. so the idea of locking people up for sex seems so bazaar to me.

Not to say I go to the Bunny Ranch. HA

31. Yes.
I personally find the thought of paying for sex or being paid for it distasteful - but that's my issue and my view, and has no impact on anybody else.

Whilst there are frequently strongly negative aspects of sex-work (cf. the recent case where a series of prostitutes over here were killed), I see many of these as arising from the culture of secrecy in which prostitution has to exist due to its generally criminal nature.

I find it amusing to see all of the adverts for escorts in the gay media where the escort will advertise all manner of personal details relating to sex, and then carry the line "all payments are for my time only...". They've created a legal (and generally pretty clean) world of de facto prostitution - which shows that there are models which can work without all of the negative sides.

I also second the comment about decriminalisation vs. legalisation - I think that the intention of the poll is clear.

33. what anyone does with their pink parts is their own business
including renting them out.

Now, the business of organized prostitution - I think that needs to be well regulated just like a restaurant or a salon, for the exactly the same reasons.
