Protesters Oppose Hawaii Civil Unions Bill
Edited on Tue Feb-24-09 04:53 PM by t0dd
HONOLULU - Thousands of protesters on Sunday voiced their opposition to the controversial civil unions bill.

They rallied at the state Capitol on Sunday afternoon to oppose a measure that gives same-sex partners the same rights and benefits as married couples.

Organizers asked protesters to wear red. They came with a loud message.

<...>

"When I saw the sea of red, I was like, 'It's amazing how many people really believe that marriage is between a man and a woman,'" protester Khale Miller said.

"Never have I seen such a huge turnout," protester Linda Sofa said. "We had 10 buses that left our church this morning."

Bingo!
I thought they were all A-okay about giving us the rights as long as we don't call it "marriage"?

:sarcasm:

10. They're so full of it when they say that crap
They don't want us to have any rights at all. And they have the audacity to pretend they're the ones being persecuted.

2. What A Load
"It's amazing how many people really believe that marriage is between a man and a woman,'"

More like it's amazing how many people don't support equal rights for all, and that once again it's a religious group involved.

It's amazing that people who claim to be persecuted are constantly persecuting others.

5. Agreed. 100%
They can have their say, but especially when they whine about "marriage" and this bill seems to be using the phase "civil union" and they still whine about "marriage", they are simply being petty.

I will not usurp or manipulate their words for my gain. That makes me no better than any other militant. On either side of the aisle. They can have their word. But, sheesh, now they're the ones going out of their way to make a non-point.

4. Uh, "civil union" grants the same rights and benefits -- by government. Not by religion.

If nothing else: The use of the term "civil union" ensures nobody is trampling on the Christians' own copyrighted word, "marriage".

These manipulative, petite-peckered protesters can bugger off.

7. And this is hurting these people exactly how?
Besides their delicate sensibilities, I mean....!? I will *never* understand people who even care who gets married to whom.

Against gay marriage? Don't have one! ;)

8. This is the Book of Mormon version of the Aloha Spirit.
Lie, change the rules, then lie some more to get your way, even if the issue at hand doesn't affect you in the least. Seriously, although there may be people from other faith groups(or none at all) protesting this, it is all too easy to see the fingerprints of the Mormon church all over it.
