Federal judge rules Nebraska gay marriage ban unconstitutional
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=1638&u_sid=1409755

LINCOLN (AP) - A federal judge Thursday struck down Nebraska's ban on gay marriage, saying the measure interferes not only with the rights of gay couples but also with foster parents, adopted children and people in a host of other living arrangements.

3. Hell yeah.
Let's see how long it takes them to amend their constitution to block gay marriages.

4. Well, if a federal judge made the ruling, that means the ruling is that
the law violates the US Constitution, not the Nebraska Constitution.

This could get interesting.

5. It was the right thing to do
and I'm sure there will be some backlash and a bigger push for the US amendment. This is why we need to get on Dems asses and demand that they come out FOR our rights. I will not support people like John Kerry who may ultimately support gay rights, but publicly makes stupid comments that only hurt our cause.

6. It's a ruling on a unique amendment, is my understanding, in that
the amendment actually penalizes gays and lesbians by taking away rights of redress on issues which the amendment speaks.

I'm not a lawyer, but I did read part of the judge's summation, and that's what I came away with.

So this ruling is not some Holy Grail or anything. I'd appreciate if someone could explain the ruling in better detail.
