A message to all of us. Be prepared to see people say they are "ex-gay" during the Obama
administration.

People you least ever expected to fall for that shit will fall for it and make our lives even worse; the feeling of marginalization is only going to get worse when that happens. I know how these ex-gay types operate. There is not any way whatsoever we can get everyone to see the truth before they buy into that shit. Not everyone will have the self esteem to fight back against them nor will they have the wisdom to heed this warning.

We will lose gay friends among us to that bullshit ex-gay crap. I know this from first hand experience with the ex-gay movement, what they are really like, and my friends locally who have ended up miserable because they would not listen to me and fell for that shit. One of whom, committed suicide later. It's THAT bad.

Obama has already made it clear that he agrees with at the very least that mentality. So has DU. Obama is friends with too many of those ex-gay preachers for the truth to be anything else. DU is also crawling with them too. Good people will fall for their hateful fork tongued "hate the sin, love the sinner" bullshit. Good people already have. Fools. I know something about the trolls rabble rousing hate against us here on DU that everyone else doesn't know too, but I'll be immediately TSed if I share it publicly, because the truth is so hard for certain PTB to accept.

Expect the ex-gay movement to gain ground and become a constant thorn in our sides. We are being told we are crazy for worrying about our future. We are not. That is exactly what Obama has made clear he plans to do with gay people. This was no accident.

Don't believe me? Talk to me in 4 years when you'll actually miss the Bush administration in comparison when it comes to gay rights issues. At least Bush was man enough to tell Falwell he was a nutbag for blaming 9/11 on us. That is the ONE thing I will give Bush credit for. Everything else he did was shit, but for that, I will remember that much. Obama does not have that kind of balls as we see. Nor does he have the right morals to stand on the right side of civil rights history for us.

I would rather be slaughtered, shot, or mass murdered than ever have to deal with that ex-gay crap again. It's THAT bad.

I'm outta here. There are places I can go online to get the fucking goddamn hell away from a bunch of godddamn ex-gay preachers. I don't give a goddamn what color their skin is, they are responsible for me being raped back in the early 90s. I won't let them take me alive. I'll go down fighting. I don't care if I have to eat out of the garbage. I'll never let them take me alive.

I leave with this quote by Sid Vicious in hopes that as many of you as possible will heed my warning:

"Undermine their pompous authority.
Reject their moral standards.
Make anarchy and disorder your trademarks.
Cause as much chaos and disruption as possible but, don't let them take you ALIVE.

1. Obama is not the enemy.
Q: Do you believe homosexuality’s a curse?

BARACK OBAMA: No.

Q: Do you believe that it is something that you are born gay and that—or that you can change your behavior?

BARACK OBAMA: I do not believe being gay or lesbian is a choice.

5. But he's not a friend, either
He's standing on the sidelines trying to see which side will get him the most votes and political power.

12. Q: Do you believe in full, equal, legal marriage for same sex couples?
Edited on Tue Dec-23-08 11:49 AM by TechBear_Seattle
BARACK OBAMA: I believe that marriage is between one man and one woman only. I do, however, support Jim Crow in the form of domestic partnerships, civil unions and other second class citizen institutions.

Q: Do you believe that homosexuals are intrinsically flawed and morally corrupt?

BARACK OBAMA: The fact that I give prominent platforms to well-known anti-gay bigots should answer your question.

3. God, I Hope Not, Jamastienne....
but I won't be surprised if it happens. Dismayed, maybe. pissed-off at the anti-gay haters, and disgusted with Obama's pandering to the fundies...but definitely not surprised. It's hard to remain true to one's ideals when it seems there is no one out there who understands. I have been there once or twice in my life, but the madness and self-hatred quickly passed. The horrible thing is that those who decide to become "ex-gays" will find only sadness, loneliness, deeper self-loathing and possibly even death when they find out that they cannot change. If they do eventually enter a so-called "traditional marriage", most, if not all, will have to add lying to their spouse as well as themselves. You ex-gay wannabes don't believe me? Go read "Stranger at the Gate", by the Rev. Mel White. It might well be an eye-opener for you. What that man went through I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Fortunately he triumphed over self-loathing to become a happy clergyperson of the Metropolitan Community Church. I'm Pagan, so it isn't my cup of tea, but I'm glad to see that he found an affirming religious group.

i wish we could save everyone here the trauma of the "ex-gay ministries", but sometimes a person has to learn from experience.

We have made the mistake of believing that the Democratic Party is for everyone and that this site was the ONE place where we wouldn't have to put up with homo-hatred. Now, the Democratic Party may move beyond this, but I'm honestly not holding my breath.

6. Yeah and I can probably trot out 100 ex-straights
some people are bisexual and some people who are truly gay submit to the brain washing and learn to spout ex-gay rhetoric while never being free of their dominant sexual attraction.

People can submit to techniques that cause them to "modify behavior" just as pigeons can be taught to peck at
bright lights.

14. We will see, won't we? He claims we did not choose to be gay; doesn't look promising so far.
Edited on Tue Dec-23-08 12:15 PM by jesus_of_suburbia
If he believes we are born gay, why would he invite a bigot for the invocation?

He says that people are born female. He's not going to invite a misogynist.

He says people are born mixed race (like myself). He's not going to invite a racist.

He says people have no choice in being gay. Why is he inviting a homophobe?

15. Warren IS as much a misogynist as a homophobe,
just for the record. The featuring of Warren sucks on multiple levels.

I have heard Obama described by one who knows him as "ruthlessly pragmatic", and what I've seen of him matches the description. So let's hope we (the LGBTQ/feminist/progressive community) can get him to see this sort of thing doesn't work - he seems to like things to work above all else, after all.

The expedient choice is to persecute and scapegoat us, if history is any guide.

19. Take me into that wackjob "ex-gay" shit alive?
Not a friggin' chance. Nutjobbery and sadism, wrapped in cultfreakazoid zombie pseudo-religion. The perpetrators of that sadistic insanity are some of the sickest people on earth, the same kind that cheer for Abu Ghraib and Guantánamo -- so long as they're not in 'em, of course. The hypocrites.

Say what you will and deal in your own fashion. I have a CCH for a reason. My rights seem to be diminishing fast enough as it is, but the Second Amendment is still (for the moment) intact. If I can't marry, I'll still by-damn carry.
