You remember the guy from Kansas who was going to set up a website for his hometown until the "good" people of the state voted to enshrine discrimination in their state constitution
this is his new website:
http://www.youknowone.com/this is the email that he sent me, along to everyone else who emailed him their support:
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my Letter to Atwood. I appreciate your comments.
I have received over 5000 emails (and I'm responding to EVERY one!!!) and as of now only a handful have been negative. It has made me realize
1 peson can make people sit up and pay attention and that putting a human face on an issue like Gay Marriage is a very effective way to get voters to actually take the time and think about the issue, rather than just taking the absurd rhetoric blanketing all of the media from the
Religious Right. Now that we have the attention, it is up to all of us
to keep it. I've decided to create a website to help others do similar
things to get those that they know and love to think for themselves and make a decision based on the fact that they will now know someone who their vote will personally affect.
The new website is live right now, however it's just an animation at this point, that's where you come in. I'm seeking idea's for the
site. What do you think would be effective? My strategy is leave the
actual political battles to groups like HRC (They're amazing, if you're not supporting them, I urge you to get involved with them!). I want to get personal. Based on the responses I have received, had the Citizens of Atwood and Kansas in General voted like they have been responding,
the Amendment would have gone down in flames (no pun intended!). So
let's shift our focus and make it personal. No more will we answer the
rhetoric of the Religious Right, with rhetoric of our own, we're going to let them know exactly who they are going to be affecting.
The new site is at:
http://www.YouKnowOne.com Please pass it around
and encourage those you know to send their ideas.
The Advocate is running an article about my letter to Atwood and an interview with me in the May 24th issue, in which I discuss my reasons for the letter, the response I've received, my hopes for the future,
what's next, and the new site. So I'm hoping for people to share
their stories w/ me so I can put them up on the site.
All the best!
Daniel
