Just donated my 4 Obama t-shirts to Goodwill this morning
I was planning on dropping off some things from a recent housecleaning. I saw them in my closet and decided I didn't want them anymore.

you will feel better and someone there will be really happy to get them.

I am truly sorry that this is so painful...

14. Too bad you didn't offer them up here.
Maybe someone who is willing to give the guy one day in office before writing him off would have loved to have them. Just a thought. I made some good friends here by sharing Obama gear. Peace, Kim

16. If his record IN office is as disappointing as the lead-up
in regards to the issues discussed here in the GLBT forum, then we're in for some major disappointments. At least some of us are going into it with our eyes open.

20. Take a chill pill
Give the guy a chance to actually start his job before you write him off. All this hysteria does is make you appear to be excessively impatient and unreasonable.

21. Take a chill pill? I agree that it is too early to completely write him off, but
I can't believe you don't see just how horrible of a selection for such a momentous occasion this is!

This particular ceremony is a historic occasion of epic proportions, and is likely to be an event that will be in history books for centuries to come! The first African American president of the US! A landmark moment for human rights, that is being marred by this choice.

Can you really not see the horrible irony? A great moment of victory in history for civil rights, and the person who will actually be administering the oath of office on this great occasion is a very well established homophobe, an opponent of womens rights, heck an opponent of many things that we consider progressive! An opponent of numerous civil rights! I'm still shocked and stunned that President Obama would select such a person to administer his oath of office on such an occasion!

I agree with you that it is too early to write him off. Personally, I'm waiting until about 2011 to see what he has done before deciding if I will still be for him or against him. Regardless of that though, this is an absolutely horrible choice. He might as well have invited Jerry Falwell to administer the oath.

I respect your opinion, agree that it's too soon to completely write him off (although I certainly understand why some are.. and am even tempted to myself) but I absolutely disagree that those who are already writing him off are appearing excessively impatient or unreasonable, except to those that do not see the bitter irony of President Obamas choice.

24. African-Americans don't see it the same way
While GLBT folks like to describe the struggle as analogous to the African-American civil rights struggle, the reverse is anything but true.

Those who assume Obama is 100% on board with the GLBT agenda because he has dark skin are going to be extremely disappointed.

25. Pretty pompous of you to feel you can speak on behalf of an entire race of people.
There may be a percentage who feel that way, hell, it may even be a high percentage, I don't have any polls to either confirm or refute what you state.. but since you state it, do you?

I don't assume President Obama is 100% onboard with the "GLBT agenda" because he has dark skin. I presume that he will be because he is a DEMOCRAT, and supporting equal rights for all, including GLBT's is SUPPOSED to be a big part of the Democrat agenda. I also presume it, because he has stated on the record that he supports equal rights for GLBT's. So, if we are "going to be extremely disappointed", then you are pretty much saying that he is neither a Democrat, and that he is a liar. Personally, I'm willing to see what these next few years bring before I jump to a final conclusion.

Peace out.

30. Read 'em and weep
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/polls/#CAI01p10

70% of African-Americans in California voted for Prop. 8. Among African-American women, 75%. And this is California we're talking about - the rest of the country is even less supportive of GLBT issues.

It's one thing to be allies in opposition, it's quite another once that opposition becomes a ruling coalition. Just because someone is a Democrat doesn't mean they are in agreement with what the GLBT brigade wants to do... and throwing people like Obama under the bus for one step out of line isn't going to persuade anybody to think differently about the matter.

26. Are you sure you have your facts correct?
If you are telling us that Rick Warren is going to administer the oath of office you are waaaaaaaay off base. The oath of office is almost always administered by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The exceptions are George Washington (his 2nd was by a justice), John Tyler, Millard Fillmore, Theodore Roosevelt (1st swearing in) and Lyndon Johnson (1st swearing in). If you are referring John Roberts you are a little more inline, BUT this thread is not about John Roberts so we can only assume that you are referring to Rick Warren.

Now if your upset about Rick Warren giving the INVOCATION, which IS NOT administering the Oath of Office, then you have a legit bitch.
