Poll question: At what point would YOU say it's acceptable to criticize anything Obama has done?
Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 10:47 PM by Ken Burch
Remember, despite what some of the more paranoid posters here have said, Obama himself does WANT us to speak out when we're concerned.

1. If we stay silent, the only imput Obama is going to get
Is from the wackos on the right.

Does that sound like a good idea?

Tell him how he's doing, tell him often, and say it LOUD.

2. It's our civic duty to criticize our leaders if we disagree with them.

5. Well, those of you in the "shut up, peasant scum" crowd call ALL criticism "tantrums" .
Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 10:55 PM by Ken Burch
This was never meant to be an administration in which "The Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party" was the junior partner and expected to know its place.

That's not what Obama meant by change. He meant us all to have a voice. He didn't want blind followers.

And remember, we shut up the whole time under Clinton and NOTHING good came of that.

9. Well a bigot might call it throwing a tantrum
Those of us upset about it would refer to it as registering our unhappiness...

10. Just so you know, a lot of us will keep asking questions like this.
You're not going to get us to go away or be silent. This is our party too, and we have as much right to be heard with respect as anyone else. And certainly as much as anyone on the other side who's being "reached out" to.

15. Look, Ken Burch tried to start a productive/contructive thread here.
Would you mind not shitting on it with flame bait? Part of the problem is that one liner platitudes and snark have replaced actual discussion. Don't add to it if you want to actually see some progress. Eh?

14. It should be acceptable to criticize our government and our elected leaders.
Thing is, just like any other president, Obama WORKS FOR US. If he's doing something we don't like, we should have every right to tell him so and urge him to do a better job representing us. If not, he's no better than Bush and our Constitution is still in jeopardy. We have rights in this country, well, at least the right to say a few things if we disagree, anyhow.

Granted, he's not IN OFFICE yet, but still, his actions during the primaries and the recent Warren insult (and no progressives/liberals in his cabinet) have taken away what little hope I forced myself to have in him. I never wanted to support him. I supported Kucinich (first choice), then when he dropped out, Edwards, then when Edwards dropped out, Hillary.

I saw the McClurkin insult and then saw how we were told we could not speak out about that back then. That was during the primaries too. That disgusted me then and it disgusts me now. They called us racist for daring to speak up then because McClurkin was black. They call us racist for daring to speak up now, even though Warren, from all looks and appearances is NOT a black man. Warren is white, yet we are racists for speaking up against someone who wants to "cure" (translated: shock treatments, exorcisms, rape, etc.) us. No fucking way. I won't get with that. I'll criticize Obama if he does something as hateful as get Warren to speak.

18. ... um... is there an option for 'when he does something I disagree with'?
Edited on Sat Dec-20-08 02:00 AM by DarkTirade
'cause that's really the only time I plan to criticize. What day, week or month it is really isn't relevant in my mind.

*edit* Okay, I might go easy on him if it was his birthday or something. So I guess time is SOMEWHAT relevant.

20. Well, obviously it would be about something a person disagreed with
Which is all criticism of Obama has been about so far. No one has criticized him from the left over NOTHING.

19. When he does something stupid
Seriously, isn't that what democracy is about? Dude works for us, not the other way around.

Fascism thrives when the People are asleep at the wheel, as the last 8 years have proven. Do we really want 8 more years of one man doing whatever the hell he wants with no accountability, as long as he's on "our side" and mouths the right platitudes?
