1. Within minutes, somebody will post that it was the murder victim's fault.
He could have pretended to be straight, you know.

2. But she was wearing a short skirt - she was asking for it...

when I was a volunteer at a domestic violence shelter you would, or maybe not, be surprised how many times that was an excuse for sexual abuse or rape. The same logic unfortunately is applied to all sorts of abuse towards all minorities and persons of little power.

6. People just don't want to believe that these things can happen to *anybody*, which is the truth.
I think that's where a lot of this "blame the victim" stuff comes from. If the crime can be pinned on something the victim did or didn't do, then that means the person doing the pinning is theoretically safe. But of course they aren't...

10. People who are hurting rarely take responsibility for their own actions
unfortunately we sometimes forget that the abuser is hurting as well - it in no way justifies there behavior - but we need to realize why they are hurting, because that is the true cause of their actions. People who are not suffering on one level or another do not commit violent acts IMO.

That being said American society is great at passing the buck, weather it be responsibility for ones actions or the actions of society as a whole - we dont want to take the blame for our own actions and for some reason our culture teaches us its okay to do what ever we can to make ourselves look better - even if its at the detriment of another human being - sadly.

11. Another murder? Who-da thunk it? What with all the rhetoric about us being pedophiles and so forth.
:sarcasm:

RIP, friend.
