Lets talk Local Education Foundations

Anyone else involved in one of these?

They are basically a source of non-governmental, external funding for public education...to various degrees.

There are many popping up everywhere.

Any thoughts or opinions?

I get the feeling the folks Im working with see these Foundations through a more conservative political lens. (this is a rural area)

It seems to suit their politics...like they are circumventing the government, improving education by not raising taxes...or something.

I still like the idea though.

But our group is woefully short on Faculty awareness and good creative ideas...mostly bankers and bean counters on our board.

Im just the webmaster - but I have ended up having a bit more input than I anticipated.

We are about to get into Fund raising efforts...mostly email.

Just testing the waters here...any one here work for or have any experience with a Local Education Foundation?

1. Usually they just fund small educator grants for new programs or materials,trainings

They may fund school trips for kids or things like uniforms for the band, stuff like that.
