China seizes some 29 tons of drugs in 2009
China seized 28.8 tons of drugs and arrested some 91,000 people, including 5,560 foreigners, on drug-related charges in 2009, Xinhua news agency reported.

The agency said quoting data from the Ministry of Public Security that as the country intensified its war against drugs, police destroyed 391 drug factories and warehouses in 2009, which is a 60.2% year-on-year increase.

Police and administrative bodies also closed 264 entertainment venues, where drug-related crimes were exposed throughout the year.

The National Narcotics Control Commission (CNNCC) reported over 1.34 million registered drug users in 2009, an 18.6% increase against the previous year, the agency reported.
