The police have just left my house - Someone sent an e-mail
offering to sell me meth, crack cocaine or heroin and so forth. Know I am leaving myself wide open for flaming BUT am wondering if anyone else has rec'd such an offer.

Last year it was kiddie porn. I have an open e-mail so am ripe for all kinds of scams, etc.

Am sure the neighbors are wondering, "What the hell did that old lady do now?"

1. I got two of them today

I think that they are a variation on the Nigerian scams.

3. Usually, if I don't know the person
I put the e-mail straight into the spam box.

4. The FBI is monitoring your email?
Or are they monitoring the email you replied to?

5. Weird
I got a nigerian scam today. Did the cops come because you called them about the email, or because they sent the email then followed up on people who tried to use it? That sounds like entrapment, but I don't know much about the law.

8. No, I called them and I did not open the e-mail. One of them took
the e-mail address which was posted, then he told me to delete the post, which I did.

6. That sounds suspiciously like a police phishing scheme to gain access to

..... your property.

Dont know why, but if random emails can trigger a raid theres no stopping the police from being the creators of those emails.

7. Stuff like that's pretty common
They're generally not actually selling the stuff, but trying to get people in trouble for being associated with it. If you get spam from Fred offering to sell you kiddy porn or cruise missiles or distilled Republicanism or whatever, it's usually not actually Fred; it's Bob, who wants to get Fred in trouble so he has less competition.

9. Best Advice
speak to an attorney, don't publish what happened on the internet.
